I take the train to NYC for business and usually leave from the New Brunswick station. If I don't want to call a friend to get a pick up I can go right outside the train station and get a cab at Black and White taxi. They are not quite like you would get in the city. You will often have to wait for a taxi to get back to the office and they may take more than one patron at a time but they are a lot easier than calling a cab from somewhere else and waiting outside for it to come.

I am not crafty but I have made homemade chocolates for baby and wedding showers. Its not hard and you can get everything you need at Candyland. They have the supplies and the chocolate too. They even have classes if you want help. I think they do parties too. Great resource for hard to find items in this area. The only draw back is parking can be difficult because they don't have their own parking lot and Somerville is getting busier every day. But its worth the hassle if you need something you can't get anywhere else.

If you live anywhere near Dave's in NJ you just have to go. Its so cheesy its fun. Its an auction house but not stuffy or anything like what most people think of as an auction sale. Its sort of like having a Walmart auctioned off in front of you. They will put up for auction so weird $2 item and sell hundreds of them and in the next breath put up a diamond ring that will sell for over $1000. There are a lot of "rural" types that go there but every now and then I go with some friends and we laugh all night. The auction has been around forever and they are legit so don't be afraid to buy. Have fun.

I have been going here for years. This is a huge 40 acre flea market. Its mostly outdoors but has about 5 buildings to get out of the cold/heat. EAS is open every Saturday and Sunday, all year 'round, rain or shine on the weekends. Get there early for good deals and decent parking. The website www.englishtownauction.com has directions and a guide to the place. With 300 vendors you can spend a whole day. Bring water and comfortable shoes. Also bring cash and small bills. Bargain for things if you think you really want it and alway tell them you have cash. Most vendors won't take anything else.

We dealt with Jon Storz at the Brickman Group for landscape maintenance on our entire condo development. This included snow removal and everything that goes along with that. It just snowed last night and they have been horrible. We are so that we are considering firing them. They made all kinds of promises and came with recommendations but have turned out to be completely disappointing. No one came for almost 10 hours after the snow. It was a weekday and no one could even move their car. We had enough snow to make it extremely difficult to even function as far as getting down the steps, taking pets out, getting to the garbage, etc. I strongly caution anyone before hiring this firm.

We had them install vinyl windows in our condo to replace the ones that were leaking air. They had to match perfectly according to the condo agreement and Somerville Aluminum was able to do this for us and they were very good quality at the same time. They were on time and meticulous in the installation. I would recommend them for windows and for the quality of service.

Elliott's has been around for a long time. You have probably driven by the odd pink building if you live anywhere near Bridgewater or Somerville. They seem odd now when we have so many super stores but they are still very good for certain things. If you want to run out of a case of soda and some wine you can go to Elliott and drive right up. They will put cases of soda, tea, etc. in your car for you and you can go inside for liquor. Easy and convienient. Try it and see.

This is a supply store catering to those in the business only. The prices are so much better than the salon but you have to show a licence so if you don't have one get a friend that does to go with you and pay cash. They are friendly and don't make it hard to do this. They know a lot of people do bring friends. The Matrix and Biolage prices are great.

When I was in my apartment and needed cheap temporary furniture I used unclaimed Freight often. I bought a simple headboard and bed frame, a shelving unit and some other odds and ends. Its ok but nothing lasts. When I moved to a house I got rid of it all and only have a small stand for one of my TVs. My friend bought a couch and it sagged badly after a year. I would say small simple items are ok but not stuff like couches and chairs.

I love going to NYC for Broadway but sometimes I just can't deal with the drive and the high price of tickets. Villagers is great. They are practically in my backyard and the tickets are cheap. Sometimes less than a movie. The things I've seen have been enjoyable. None have been incredible but I have never been dissapointed. I am going to see Urinetown and I have seen it on Broadway so the comparison should prove interesting. Try it instead of the movies and you'll be happy.
