This semi-private club has a relatively flat 18-hole course, but there is some mounding that can affect your shots and several sand bunkers and water hazards come into play. The fairways are bordered by a defined cut of rough, and the average-sized greens vary in undulation and their speeds are determined by the seasonal weather conditions.
Built in 1926 and designed by Donald Ross for what was then the Pinecrest Resort, this is the oldest remaining course in Highlands County. (And, if you'd like to buy the resort that goes with it, Pinecrest is currently for sale for $3.5 million.)

Highlands Ridge offers two championship, eighteen hole courses: the North and South. The South Course opened in 1990 and was designed by architect Steve Smyers. Not overly lengthy, the South Course offers a variety of shots for all skill levels. There is a defined cut of rough along the tree lined fairways, demanding shot accuracy. The South Course plays from 4,469 to 6,176-yards and offers four sets of tees.
The North Course is the newer of the two tracks at Highlands Ridge. Designed by architect Dave Harman, the North Course opened for play in 2000. This course boasts rolling fairways and fast, well bunkered greens. Water comes into play on several holes. The North Course plays from 5,000 to a whopping 7,234-yards and offers five sets of tees.
Both courses play alongside a nature preserve, and many of the fairways are lined with mature oaks covered in Spanish moss. Highlands Ridge also boasts a complete practice facility, including a putting green, driving range and chipping area.

This public club features an outstanding 18-hole course, plus a 18-hole executive course. The 18-hole course is a championship layout with tree-lined fairways that demand straight shots from off the tees. This course is flat, but there are water hazards coming into play on at least five holes. The other tee shown is an additional men's tee. Carts are mandatory on this course.
The Executive Course is typically flat, but there is an occasional hill that can cause uneven lies. The wide-open fairways are lined with palm trees, and there are ponds that come into play on five holes. The greens are medium-sized, undulating, and protected by a few sand bunkers. You are required to walk this course, but it's well worth the workout. There are additional sets of tees when playing an eighteen hole round.

Although it is closed for the summer, South Florida Community College's Museum of Florida Art and Culture (MOFAC) on the college campus is a fabulous place to spend an hour or two. It consists of three main sections - the library, exhibits and archeology. In the library, you can read about Florida's art tradition (the oldest in the New World), get tips on collecting art and/or visit their Florida bookstore. The exhibits include a guest artist exhibit and a fabulous collection of Highwaymen paintings. The archaeological area consists of exhibits from Highlands County and the Kissimmee Valley region.
