This location sells book for Friends of the Library. It's the only used bookstore that I know of in Mammoth Lakes, and that's what makes it special. The store is small and staffed by volunteers. It's comfortable to browse there, and the prices are reasonable. Lots of free parking. We would come here all the way from Bishop. Good books for a good cause.

This tea shop is very small. They sell many types of fine loose teas and have an exotic atmosphere including Asian-themed décor and a guestbook to sign. Metered parking is available on the street. There is a small selection of mugs, teapots, a tea cozies as well. Each type of tea is available to smell in a small glass jar. The worker when we were there seemed knowledgeable. This store seems geared toward serious tea-people.

Acme Bread bakes the best bread I've ever tasted in my life. Their long lines and patronage by top bay area restaurants show that my husband and I aren't the only ones who appreciate this nutritious, natural, fresh, special bread. They sell many varieties in many different shapes and sizes, including some organic bread. The price of fair for what you're getting, maybe even low. This location has a small parking lot for free parking, and free parking is available on the street as well. I would recommend this bread to anyone. It's delicious to the extreme.

Staff of Life grocery store in Santa Cruz has a huge and awesome selection of teas, plenty of organic and conventional produce, a bulk foods area, a large collection of kitchen stuff (like potholders and gadgets), helpful staff, awesome fresh nutritious bread, and a very down-to-earth atmosphere for comfortable shopping. There’s an annex for health and beauty products that has a huge selection of supplements as well as gift items like zafus and hemp bags. This is a true hippie grocery store, just like you’d expect from Santa Cruz, and I love it. Free parking.

Corti Brothers has regular products, but it's special because of the international products. Crumpets, orange marmalade, candy of other nations, strange pickles, exotic sauces and wines. This grocery store is a food-lover's haven. My husband and I enjoyed browsing here for a long time, though we were surrounded by well-dressed rich people. Plenty of free parking, it's spacious and an enjoyable place to spend an hour if you love food. Interesting and somewhat expensive.

Barnstormers Books is a medium-large used bookstore that’s enjoyable to browse. It has beautiful black cats to visit too. I have found books there I was looking for that no other store had, and at a good price. Their selection is good. They have a clean public restroom. The workers are friendly and very helpful. I sold some used book there once, and they paid very reasonable prices. Their location in Fair Oaks is picturesque. It’s definitely worth the occasional drive from Sacramento to see what’s new.

The Orthodox Church has some great art, which is why I visited the Conciliar Press Bookstore when I was in Ben Lomond, which is in the redwood forest near Santa Cruz. For years my husband and I had passed by this place on the way to Big Basin St Park, and this time we finally decided to stop. But finding it wasn’t easy, because it’s surrounded by Tae Kwon Do.
Anyway, this Orthodox Church bookstore is small and has books, beautiful jewelry, icons, traditional painted eggs, note cards, and a few ornaments and postcards. The note cards are inexpensive. The icons are beautiful, yet some are dreary. The books are very conservative, like treatises on why it’s wrong to practice birth control, but there are also some history books that interested Erik, and some are marked down considerably from the cover price.
This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re interested in religion or art.

Shalimar has such a good reputation, my husband and I have gone to eat there many times. It's always packed, and the people in there are not white people, which leads me to believe it's got a lot of authenticity going for it. My difficulty with Shalimar is the vegetarian food. The menu seems very unbalanced, with meat being the star. As a vegetarian, I'm left with few choices. My husband, on the other hand, who eats meat, loves Shalimar. I find the dishes very oily and very heavy. So this restaurant seems like a very different experience depending on whether or not you enjoy meat, so I give it a review of "good" as the average of these two extremes.

Chutney is the best Indian-Pakistani restaurant in San Francisco and is inexpensive also. It’s always packed here, and for good reason: the food is delicious. The sauces are rich, creamy, and flavorful. Everything is spicy and delicious. They offer both meat and vegetarian dishes, and both leave nothing to be desired. The atmosphere is average, the dining area and bathrooms are clean. Free chai. Chutney’s location in the Tenderloin is probably its own drawback—although it’s safe in the daytime, drug deals can be witnessed through the windows. Overall, this is my family’s favorite restaurant in the world for the food.
