Bell's is a Tulsa landmark and the Zingo, a wooden rollercoaster, is the biggest wooden one in the country I believe. The park is fun to go to if you are just out looking a good time with the family or if you are at a company picnic (they do a lot of those at Bell's). It is good for kids and teenagers hang out there sometimes but if you are looking for thrill rides, this is not the place to go. The rides have all stayed the exact same since I was a kid and there have been no new changes. It is nostalgic going there because it reminds me of childhood but the park definitely needs a makeover. Maybe moving it to Jenks is a great idea.

Big Splash if fun for everyone in the family or group. They have a big wave pool, tube rides, various slides and a nice area of the little ones to play. They have a lot of sunning chairs as well as covered areas. The park is maintained pretty well but the level of chlorine in the water is overwhelming. Of course, with all the people that use the park it is understandable. My favorite is the Silver Bullet a/k/a the wedgie maker. I still like going here every now and then although try to go during the week, the weekends are outta control crowded.

PAWS of Tulsa is a no kill pet facility that houses really good adoptable animals. They have a vet clinic there on the premises that gets the animals physically ready for adoption and are staffed by vets volunteering their time. Some of the animals are sent to live with foster families until a home is found for them and other animals stay at the shelter until they find a home for them. Either way you go, you will have plenty of selection to find that dog or cat that you just can't live without. Their adoption fees are around $75 or so but the animal is already spayed or neutered and has updated shots.

I think you would love Oz if you are into the fantasy decor like wizards, incense, dragons, door beads, etc. Oz is also well known for their stock of "tobacco" smoking accessories. I don't think anyone is smoking tobacco though. I haven't ever found much in here that caught my eye but it is a Tulsa landmark and has been around ever since I can remember. Worth stopping by if you are looking for a gift for your hippie sister-in-law.

Very convenient to downtown lunch traffic. They have a section in the store with Tulsa collectibles that are normally only found on the internet. Their other gifts and things are pretty neat and relatively reasonably priced but they don't have anything that stands out and grabs you. Most of their gifts are realtively "safe" so it is a good place to get gifts for people that you may not know that well or may have everything.

I agree about them changing the Nutcracker. They should offer the original classic Nutcracker as well as a show where they put a fresh spin on it. Either way, you really can't go wrong if you go to the Tulsa Ballet. Their performers are very good and scenery they use is really nice. The prices are about $30 to $40 for a good second tier seat. The productions really are very professional and easily rival some of the ballets in bigger cities. Tulsa really has a good cultural scene.

Merritt's is a Tulsa standard. The cakes, muffins, cookies, other assorted goodies just can't be beat. They had two stores, one on 15th & Harvard and one at 71st & Mingo. The 71st & Mingo location also has Italian gelato. If you haven't ever had Italina gelato you owe it to yourself to try it out. All of their cakes are wonderful but my personal favorite is their strawberry cakes. They layer white cake, homemade whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Can't be beat!. Well, unless you compare it to their cheesecake. Their customer service is wonderful and they have a great selection for walk in customers as well as an incredible selection for custom orders. Just walking in the place makes you feel cozy.

If you want a truly relaxing day, this is the place for you. Marilyn Ihloff Salon is considered to be the primo place in Tulsa for salon services. The staff members are friendly and the salon is very nice. You will pay more here for the same services you can get elsewhere but you won't get the same quality of service. In car terms, this is the Cadillac salon, not the Camry salon.

I have gone to Gardner's for several years and really like it. My husband and I are both avid readers and we save a lot of money by going here. You also stumble across books you would not ordinarily look for in other bookstores. The book prices are about half of what you would pay new. For instance, if a normal trade paperback were $15.00 you would pay between $5.00 and $7.00 for the book depending upon the condition. You also have the option of trading in books that you have already read to reduce your cost.
