When I first heard that the infamous Cafe Latte was cafeteria style I thought "WHAT?". I had only heard marvelous things about their desserts, their food, their general ambience. How could anything cafeteria style be good?
Cafe Latte puts to bed all those misconceptions. They are fabulous. Their desserts are inspiring, even to a Patisserie fanatic. Their soups are lush & savory. Their salads are fresh & interesting, with quality exotic ingredients. And for what you get, the price is just right.
Best of all, their atmosphere is relaxed enough for you to take a book & park for a while upstairs, as the lunch crowds die down - and savor their award worthy desserts.

For what you pay at Spalon Montage, I would expect the royal treatment. But everytime I've gone there (yes, more than once, I'm a sucker for punishment), I've been left feeling, well incomplete.
I've had a massage at this location - totally relaxing, and a good environment for it, but overpriced for the amount of time.
I've had hair services there, and have been left feeling like there should've been more pizzaz, for what I communicated and was charged. I realize that hair services are totally at the discretion of the communication between client & stylist, but believe me, I'm a product/service junkie and I know how to tell what I want. And I felt that even after doing that, I still wasn't left all that impressed.
I've had a manicure there as well, and it was brief, with no parrafin, a wimpy hand massage and a small selection of colors (I go french anyways).
Overall, the only thing that is super impressive about Spalon is their interior design, their lemon-cucumber water & the quality of the coffee & their prices (they'll leave an impression in your pocketbook).

There are a lot of Co-Op's in the Twin Cities, but as far as most locals are concerned, the Wedge is THE Co-Op.
For the best selection of any co-op, fresh & unique produce, uncomparable meat (amazing variety of free range & organic), and a multitude of other products, check out the Wedge.
All in all the prices are comparable to other co-ops, which are still a little higher than most chain stores. But come on, you get what you pay for right? And the Wedge does have larger quantities than most other smaller co-ops, so you can find some really good deals.
The Wedge has wonderful produce & some of the best HoneyCrisp apples in town. Their produce department is always fresh, mostly organic or local grown & well laid out.
If there was one area that the Wedge is stellar about it IS selection! Check them out if you're new to co-op shopping.

We've had the same waitress, and sat in the same booth every time we've gone. The service is great. She's attentive, well tattooed, funny & prompt. The beer is cold, and from 5-7 M-F it's 1/2 off. As are the wings.
Now I'm a wings kind of girl - and these are great. Meaty, crisp, spicy & saucy. Perfect if you ask me.
The Mashed Potato Pizza is wonderful too. Who thought of this? It's heavenly. Like a baked potato on a pizza. It's topped with NO red sauce, just mashed potatoes, broccoli, cheddar cheese, red onions & bacon. With Sour Cream on the side.
The atmosphere is downtown fun, brick walls, retro posters, tv's over the bar. Very pubby. Very laidback. The parking is eh. A few meters out front, and the downtown traffic.
But overall it's totally worth it, and I will keep going back as long as they're around
