Erik's Bike Shops are a great resource for information & education about bicycling. And if you're in the market, they're the best place around to do some SERIOUS bike shopping. You won't fidn a $50 Huffy here, nor will you find a hyperstylized Hog rip off. But if you're an experienced biker, who is desiring a top of the line bicycle & all the doodads to go with it, give Eriks a try. Their staff is knowledgable, friendly & helpful, and with many locations in the metro, they have a great selection to choose from.

The Bibelot, with locations around the Twin Cities, is one of those little boutique stores that you just could spend hours & $$$$$ in.
They offer an amazing selection of unique & beautiful Christmas ornaments, cards & gifts, around the holidays.
And during the rest of the year, their selection is just as wonderful.
Including adorable, rustic & vintage kitchen items, charming books & stationary, exotic & unique jewelry, old lady clothes (oops, did I say that??), and fun gift items, the Bibelot is the place to go if you need something for someone picky or hard to shop for.

Unlike some of it's counterparts, O'Gara's & Dublins for instance, Keegans is relatively laid back & small. Though they have great acoustic sets & live music all the time, and you do get the U crowd, Keegans tends to attract an older, more sophisticated partying drinking rowdiness :-)
The beer is tall, and they have a great selection, as well as some fair wines. The food is great actually, for pub food, and I've gone there for brunch on occasion because it is so good.
The atmosphere and relaxed Irish spirit is the best thing Keegans has going for them though, and they do that well.

If youre going to O'Garas for a nice quiet Irish dinner are you in for a big surprise. O'Gara's does not offer anything quiet, and the food is only mildly mediocre. But if it's great live music from a list of local bands, a fun college crowd and lots of big cold beers you want, O'Gara's is your place. Check out the Garage, where on the weekends the bands play & the people party.

The Wild Onion has a great location, that's for sure. Located right in the middle of fun Grand Avenue, they draw a crowd of locals & college students every night of the week.
The food is good - but not outstanding. It's bar food, with a restaurant twist. The pastrami is pretty decent, though the mustard was lacking.
The beer is cold, and there's always drinks specials. The music is loud, even if it is Pop 20.
All in all the Wild Onion is a fun place to visit if you just need somewhere moderatly priced to eat on Grand.

With the craze of knitting and yarn crafts surging, the Yarnery is a great local spot to find a beautiful array of unique, quality & richly hued yarns.
In a small house on Grand Ave, thats been converted into a business, the Yarnery is a bit cramped. But their selection of fine wools, cashmeres, acrylics, etc, is beyond belief. When you walk in you'll think you've stepped into Oz, because the colors of the rainbow are all around you, and swirl your mind & imagination.
Though the prices are steeper for yarn at the Yarnery then what you'll pay at say Michaels, it's all about the quality. You won't find at Michaels the kind of skeins you'll get at the Yarnery. There are so many to choose from that it could take you a day just to go through every room.
For first time yarners or experienced pros, it's definitely worth looking into.

The Sample Room, located in an obscure spot in NE Minne is always wonderful. I don't think I've had anything there I haven't felt great about afterwards, and that includes drinks & desserts.
Their menu frequently changes, so variety is truly the spice of life at the Sample Room.
The atmosphere is cozy/upscale/bar, with a great paint job in the women's room.
But most importantly this is bar food for foodies. At the Sample Room you can literally sample countless varieties of meats, cheeses, vegetable dishes & much more. Their Wisconsin Cheddar w/ homemade cherry mustard is tart & firm without being overly "cheesy" and the cherry mustard (HOMEMADE I might add) balances fruitiness & spice perfectly.
Their roasted beef w/ caramalized onion relish is savory & rich, flavorful and robust without being overly salty.
The three meat meatloaf is delicious, tender and fine with a tangy/smoky bbq taste.
The oven roasted veggies are delicious, and once I had them I order them every time now. Sometimes they're paired with the roasted chicken, which is consistently juicy & flavorful with crisp skin.
Their desserts are great too, with creme brulee being the most ordinary and the chocolate goat cheese w/ raspberries being themost exotic.
They also have wine flights that are a great price for 4 flights, and they have a good selection including some impressive Spanish red's & syrahs.
I can't rave on enough about the Sample Room, and everything, including the prices, the small seating area (so you don't have a packed people-watching crowd), the beautiful soft lighting, the amazing food, the great drinks - EVERYTHING about this place is perfect!

If you are looking for a great beer selection (with one of the best beer late night happy hours in town), check out Pracna On Main.
Located on adorable, historical Saint Anthony Main, you can sit outside during the summer, and watch the pedestrians & segwayers go by. Or during the colder months, you can go inside the brick walled pub & enjoy building lego creations at your table.
The food is pub fare - but delicious. The Strawberry Chicken Salad doesn't dissapoint, and neither do any of the sandwiches.
The beer selection, tap & bottle, is phenomenal. And the location is central, parking is easy & the atmosphere is fun.
You can't go wrong at Pracna On Main.

Ok, I've never had a leech on me before in my life. And it serves me right for getting one the first time I went to Minnehaha Falls. Because you're not supposed to climb down into the falls, or back behind the gates. But we did. And it was so worth it.
I'm not from around here, and have been amazed & impressed by the beauty of MN. Minnehaha Falls is a place, right here in the city, that you can experience that beauty.
The falls roar & echo with the sound of rushing water, and the sights of so much greenery & lush beauty is inescapable.
For just a picnic, or a hike, or to find some leech's give a day's worth of attention to Minnehaha Falls.

Kowalski's, as a whole, is a great chain. They blow places like Cub & Rainbow out of the water, and are my favorite place to shop. The one on Grand is no exception. They have a great deli with really good sandwiches & soups, decent produce, fresh meat selection, good grains, etc.
But the one on Grand is so small. The aisles are always cramped. And the layout isn't the best either. Don't even get me started on the parking. The lot is confusing, with one way driving, and there aren't that many spaces.
But, if your only other options are Cub or Rainbow at Midway, make the effort to get over to Kowalskis.
