Heartbreakers in Uptown is the fun kind of store that your little sister would love to shop at and take you to once in a while to make you more hip. They have two floors of inexpensive, mostly Asian made, trendy clothes, that reflect a very club going style. Downstairs, their shoe selection is amazingly large, with a good variety of flats, trainers and dressier shoes. They also carry fun, hard to find cosmetic items that, while the quality isn't the best, are bright, colorful & fun to try for the occasional Friday night outing. Heartbreakers also carries a great selection of accesories, and other interesting items. All in all, they're not the place to go get career clothing, but are a cheap & fun place to shop for something unique & whimsical.

Varsity Bike Shop, located in Dinkytown is a great place to go with Bike questions, when you need service or just want to shop for a bike. Because they are on the smaller side, their bike selection for sale might be a bit on the limited side. But their service is so friendly, so helpful & knowledgeable, that it more than makes up for it. When I got my bike, not even at their bike shop, I went into Varsity Bike to get a cupholder & basket. The guy behind the counter not only helped me find the best one for what I was looking for, but he then helped me put them on my bike, and showed me how to do it. Varsity Bike Shop is a great source for all of your bike needs.

Poor Tacos Morelos, or Morelos Fresh Mexican Grill as the sign says. The food there is amazingly good, and authentic. They just can't seem to get it "right" though. I went in there the other day, for the first time, desiring true Baja Fish Tacos. I asked the server, "do you have BAJA fish tacos", and he said yes. So I asked again "The real BAJA style, with cabbage & white sauce" and he replied back again, yes. I said, ok serve me up an order, to go.
And he did, for $12 bucks. YIKES!!!
I took them back to my office only to be sorely dissapointed. There was fish, and they were tacos. But the certainly wasn't what I was asking for. The tortillas were soggy and ripped apart from all the juice from the Pico De Gallo sauce. And instead of being authentic Baja style tacos, they were just some sort of whitefish, in cubes, smothered to within an inch of their fishy little lives in guacamole.
This is not the place to go if you want real Baja style fish tacos. Or great service. Or a good price. But if you like guacamole, check it out for sure

The Har Mar Strip Mall located on Snelling in Roseville is a twin cities landmark. You can give pretty much anyone directions from it just say "Har Mar" and they know what you mean. Maybe that's because it's been around since the 1960's. Unfortunately, it looks that way sometimes. But Har Mar does boast one of the best Barnes & Noble's in the cities, as well as a slew of other shopes like Home Goodes, Buffalo Wild Wings, Old Chicago, Michaels Arts And Crafts, Penningtons (great soups), Baja Sol, a TCF Bank, Marshalls, TJ Maxxx, Cub Foods, Northwestern Book Store and more. They also have a small AMC Theater there you can check out.

If you're a fan of BBQ, check out Famous Daves. With a variety of dishes to choose from, and a variety of sauces to choose from, based on their spiciness, Famous Daves offers up authentic, delicious meals.
Of particular note are their riblets, which I totally enjoy. One meal is about $9 and will feed you plenty, with leftovers to spare. They have a ton of sides you can get with your meal, including spiced apples, cornbread, cole slaw, fries, baked beans and more.
There are Famous Daves all around the twin cities, but the one in uptown has blues on Saturday nights, and what goes better with bbq then the blues?
For delicious BBQ fare, try Famous Daves.

Fiori Flowers & Gifts is one of those places that you're surprised to find when you actually go in. Located in a hidden spot in NE Minneapolis, on First and University, it's in an old brick building that is as charming as it is deceiving in hiding beautiful Fiori's. Once inside the one of a kind gifts and floral masterpieces will throw you off, you'll think you were in some expensive, exclusive NY floral shop. But Fiori's is right in the heart of Minneapolis. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell that Fiori's takes great pride in all their unique, custom floral arrangements. The prices reflect the artistry of their floral creations, but if you are looking for something out of the ordinary and truly breathtaking, Fioris is a great choice for flowers.

In a nutshell, if you're coming to the Gasthof, you're not coming for the food. Chances are, you're coming to what the proprietors call "Mario Kellers Bar". But really, who calls it that? Anyone who's been to this AUTHENTIC German restaurant & bar knows it as the Gasthof. And with glass boots of beer that weigh more than I can bench press flowing freely to the live German or Polish polka band, as college students chant and scream in German like a crazed Man Show audience, isn't the Gasthof really about being downstairs?
They have food upstairs, in the restaurant, sure. And I hear it's great. I'd like to try their famous schnitzel sometime But that would mean I'd have to get there before 10, when the party starts. They do have an amazing German beer selection, with Gosser Light & Gosser Stiftsbrau, Hacker Pschorr, Lowenbrau (ok, maybe I'll pass on the Lowenbrau), Paulaner Helles, Paulaner Hefeweizen (super yummy wheat beer), and more.
This month, in October, it's time for, you guessed it Oktoberfest. They put up a huge tent in the parking lots, there's no cover from 5-11, and there is plenty of loud, live music & fun Fridays & Saturdays through October 15th.

Espresso Royale, or "the Royale" for those in the know, is a great little coffee shop that put the charm back into independantly owned coffee shops.
Without being too cliche, this place is reminiscent of the coffee shop on Friends. There are always students there reading, or interesting neighbors, in the Dinkytown location (they have two others, on Washington & in downtown) and they display fun art on the brick walls. The location is great, right in the heart of Dinkytown, making it a fun place to walk to, or from. Parking can be a pain though, so bring your quarters to feed the meters.
The Dinkytown location is purported as their oldest amd most preserved cafe, known for it's truly beatnik feel.
The coffee drinks are good - depending on your barista. The manager there in the mornings tends to burn the shots, but Emily, who works at night sometimes, and on Saturday & Sunday mornings is friendly, chatty & can make a great drink.
The pastries & sandwiches are made on the location, every day and never shipped in. The toffee covered chocolate pretzel goes well with any drink. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere can't be beat.

Tuggs Tavern sits cozily on St. Anthony Main, right on the Mississippi Riverfront in Minneapolis. It's the perfect spot in the summer to go enjoy a burger, a fresh squeezed lemonade or lemonade libation and some fun outdoor music. There is a large wraparound patio with plenty of seating, and a great view of the cobblestone street & river.
Tuggs's menu consists of a variety of burgers & a few sandwiches, and of course their famous lemonade. Their burgers can be ordered stuffed or unstuffed, but overall they are creative and tasty. Their Humpty Dumpty burger comes with a fried egg, and their stuffed Tuggs Burger is loaded with cream cheese & jalapenos.
Their lemonades are all hand squeezed, fresh and so refreshing. You can order them regular, sugar free, strawberry or raspberry style, and you can also get them with a variety of vodkas for more adult tastes. For the more adult crowd, Tuggs also offers their signature Rocket Of Beer, which needs to be seen to be understood (basically a three foot tall glass Beer Bong like self serving tap for your table).
Every night of the week they have different specials, so be sure to check them out.

PB Loco is a fun specialty store that offers a variety of different peanut butters, on wraps & in sandwiches. They have all kinds such as raspberry white chocolate, curry spice, marshmallow spread peanut butter (just like fluffernutters), nutella, sun dried tomato, cafe mocha, dark chocolate, pina colada and more to choose from. The prices are a bit steep, for a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, but the novelty is great and so is the concept.
