If you' have never shopped at Trader Joe's for groceries, household supplies, or wine/beer then you have been missing out! Get yourself there immediately--great imported foods, wonderful prices on produce and all manner of goods. Great desserts. They have organic foods and tend to be health food oriented. The wine selection and price is superb as are the beers. I just LOVE TJ's!! I think that the store in Culver City is the best--it's got the best selection, is a new building, and isn't as crowded as the other stores. Check out the website for locations. Oh yeah and they have great prices on imported cheese.

Erewhon is wonderful for all sorts of natural foods--if you're on a raw food diet, low carb diet, gluten free or organic you should check this place out. I always see celebrities or model types here--probably because they can actually afford it. Some of the food (most) is VERY expensive. But they have a great selection of foods you won't really find elsewhere. The beauty section is outstanding and they carry a wonderful natural hair dye from Italy called Herbatint that I highly recommend.

I love Whole Foods. It's expensive, but has a great selection of delicious quality food--focusing on natural and organic although there are some conventional foods as well. There is a deli and take out section, too. The beauty section has a lot of options. The sushi is really good--I always get it for lunch once or twice per week. If you have special dietary needs (l am gluten free) then this is the place for you! There are several different stores throughout the LA area. That said, you certainly won't find one in lower income areas.

Kabuki has a lot of different locations--check out the web link (Hollywood, Burbank, Pasadena, etc.). The atmosphere is open, modern, yuppy, young and trendy (at least in Hollywood). The rolls are cheap (about 2.50 for a salmon roll) and generous. This is a fun place to go with friends. The booths might be better for a date. If you go to the Hollywood location you can plan a night by also going to the Archlight for a film afterwards, or if you're a bookworm step nextdoor to Border's on Sunset. Parking is hard to find...down an alley off Sunset behind the restaurant. But the parking is pretty cheap/free if you're there for two hours (I think).

The thing I love most about this place, aside from the good food, friendly service, and fun music, is the atmosphere and the interior. You take your shoes off upon entering and put them in a cubby by a pretty fountain surrounded by bamboo. The floors are all dark brown wide planked wood and you can either sit at the bar or on the floor. The tables are along the floor and you can either sit cross legged or put your feet in the pit under the table. They lower the lights for dinner and it's a great place for an intimate date.

If you have a BMW this is the place to take it . It's one shop where "Break My Wallet" doesn't hold true. Hoa is was trained as a BMW master mechanic and does excellent work , and charges very affordable prices. These guys are honest, upfront, and really love these cars. If you have an E30 chassy, even better--it's their speciality! I have a 318is and they've always taken perfect care of it.
John Norris in Santa Monica is also supposed to be excellent , but he is more expensive so I've never taken my car to him.
