Trader Joe's is a mecca for those that like a smaller grocery store packed with unique items, many times organic, that do not sell for an arm and a leg. Trader Joes is the famous outlet for the Two buck chuck wine from California, and it also sells a number of other wines and beers that you wouldn't most likely find elsewhere. They have wonderful dried fruits and nuts, fruit leathers, and cheeses. Their frozen foods are healthy and varied. They purchase their foods in large quantities and have good relationships with suppliers. They really do pass the savings on to the customer.

DeLonghi produces middle of the road priced kitchen appliances as well as heating and cooling appliances as well. Their designs are usually innovative and modern, and the prices put them in the mainstream market. They are known for being up on fashion design styles - such as stainless steel - and for adding features to products that previously existed only in high end models. The quality is alright - a few of the products I have suffer from product deterioration after a few years.

This location of the Publix grocery store is a mixed bag in my opinion. The aisles are close together, the checkout lanes a bit more narrow, and the fruit selection a bit limited. Some of the good points, however, are the well lit aisles, the superb deli, the nice selection of wines, and the location of many of the items. This store could stand to put some milk and quick grab products near the front. Each employee I ran into here, though, was friendly.

Ceviche is a Spanish tapas restaurant - one of several in the St. Petersburg area - and from the few that I've been to in the area this one has the best Spanish atmosphere. They have wonderful sangria filled with fruit. They have dozens of tapas and a number of good choices for vegetarians. The service is very good and the food is delivered quickly. The tapas were wonderful - highly recommended restaurant.

Moon Under Water is a local restaurant that attracts a bunch of tourists or visitors but is also frequented by a number of locals. It has wonderful fish & chips (though the chips could be more chip like and less french fry like) and curries. The portions are large and the atmosphere is very nice. They have Guinness on draft in addition to a number of other good choices. The staff are fairly attendant. There is a lovely outdoor dining area with a dozen tables at least. Prices are reasonable. Some sites list it as $20-30 per person, but that would seem to include a drink and appetizer as well as a main dish.

The Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront is a really nice, well maintained, high class hotel. The property sits a few blocks from the marina and bay and there are an abundance of restaurants and shops nearby as well. The hotel has a very nice lobby with plenty of comfortable seating - at least 8 couches, dozens of chairs, and tables. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the bathroom amenities are Crabtree and Evelyn. One drawback is that the bathrooms are small in some of the units. The beds are very comfortable and combine down comforters and plenty of down pillows. The conference center is very nice and they have very helpful and friendly staff.

The East Columbia branch of the Library is set up in a wheel and spoke design. The center of the library has a set of computers and desks and the different sections - fiction, biographies, travel, etc. - are spoked out from the desks. If you want a quiet place to study or read, head for the back of the library near the windows. It is more quiet than the other areas. They have a nice on line system to renew and reserve books. It is easy to get a library card and they also offer movies, CDs, and books on tape for borrow. However, book selection is better elsewhere.

La Madeline is a local chain that offers French food in an informal setting. Think along the lines of French onion soup, roasted chicken, quiche, breads, etc. They also offer a very nice choice of desserts such as fruit tarts, cakes, fruits and cookies. The prices are fairly reasonable and seating is usually ample. This is a place to come for a cup of tea, dinner or dessert, and nice chats.

Ri Ra has a few locations in the DC area - one of them being located on a back street in Bethesda. They offer some decent happy hour drafts and their dinners are good as well. They seem to specialize in things with Irish influences, such as corned beef and Guinness drafts. The Guinness here is some of the best to be found in the city. The atmosphere reflects a pub-like feel. If you are in the area, definitely worth checking out.

Bertucci's is fairly widespread in the DC area and it offers a nice array of Italian fare for reasonable prices. Besides the typical pasta and pizzas (brick oven kind) they offer nice appetizers with Italian meats, cheeses, as well as vegetables. They have a nice mix of salads as well. One of my favorites is the tomato and fresh mozzarella salad. The portions are good and the service has always been friendly here.
