For years I never went to Bliss, passing it by to frequent its now defunct competitor Life a few doors down.
But as Subway and Tasti-D have moved onto the block, Bliss is becoming more and more precious to the neighborhood as the little cafe that could.
Resplendent with the usual veg cafe fare and pillow-head style B-burgers, it's a safe bet for a homestyle veg breakfast or a quick lunch. I feel Bliss particularly stands out when it comes to their bakery counter and stay all day if you feel like it vibe.

According the menu Radha is an Indian goddess of love, and I suppose this means that the kitchen prepares Radha's myriad of international staples with the greatest of care--or something like that.
Unlike the name might suggest, Radha is not a vegetarian Indian restaurant, but rather has a little bit of everything-- Italian pasta? Pakoras? Japanese salad? American veg burger? Tex Mex burrito? Your desire is Radha's command.
I stepped in and grabbed a burger, certainly NOT the best (taste or price wise) of veg burgers in town, but quite decent and obviously homemade vs. a frozen patty.
The service was unassuming and friendly and the atmosphere subdued and casual. It may definitely be a solid LES spot, though I have doubts that any one thing might be exceptional on the menu at a place that tries to do everything.

Despite everything we know about the nutritional backwardness of the divine food we call french fries, frites, American fries, etc. there comes a time and place where we must look the prospect of a triple bypass directly in the clogged artery and say, "Eat this!", and just do it.
Pommes Frites on 2nd Ave is one of the few places that inspires such reckless abandon. These fry masters fry their fries not one, but twice! to ensure that perfect texture. They also offer up several dozen homemade dips including several mayos, dijon garlic mustard, Thai peanut sauce, curry ketchup. . . and the list goes on.
Other contenders for best fries include: B. Frites in Midtown Manhattan and Gregory and Paul's stands on Coney Island (across from the Cyclone).

To be fair, I haven't been to Counter since it first opened a few years ago. At that time I was not impressed with the food--which was tasty, but for the meal, over-priced.
I have a feeling that since that time the then green owners of Counter have worked out some the early kinks and are probably doing much better.
Cuisine is American diner meets upscale bistro and the chef attempts to put creative spins on old favorites like lentil loaf and mashed potatoes, making them with various fancy, organic, semi-exotic ingredients suitable for urban palates.
One fo the biggest draws is Counter's extensive wine bar, with several standout locally produced vintages and a solid list of organics.

I've had carnivorous friends fess up that if there was one all-veg place where they could get a satisfactorily "meaty" meal it would be Kate's.
Meals are heavy, greasy, American diner fare with lots of BBQ-type options and convincing meat substitutes. Over all not the kind of veg cuisine I'm a fan of, but if you're looking for a heap of chili-fries and and stack of BBQ mock ribs, maybe Kate's is just the grungy East Village spot you've been looking to skirt the edge of heartburn at.
In terms of American greasy spoon veg I might choose Anytime (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) or Old Devil Moon (East Village) over Kate's.

I've been to Anjelica's off and on over the past few years, and while I've never been wowed as some people seem to be, I don't believe it deserves a poor rating.
At best it can be thoughtful health-conscious cooking, but at its worst it can be uninspired and tasteless. I've had both at Anjelica's and it has tended to be somewhat inconsistent. If you're going expecting something exemplary I do think you will be disappointed. If you're going looking for a solid, healthy veg alternative you probably won't be.
Service also tends to be somewhat unpredictable, but overall I do think people looking for veg cuisine could do worse (and maybe better).
