Tasty Indonesian on the Ave

Sunday, April 24, 2005
Batavia's been open about 6 weeks, so you should expect some funky service issues (like getting your appetizers after your entrees), but the food is very flavorful, fresh and CHEAP. The owners are a couple of young people from Java who missed good Indonesian food in Seattle for a few years, so they opened their own restaurant. The prices are geared toward UW students, which makes it a very good deal. Most entrees include steamed rice, meat in a curry sauce, cooked jackfruit and a hard-boiled egg doused in chili sauce (I guess it's an acquired taste...?), all for about $6. The sates are also very tasty...the meat is tender and the accompanying peanut sauce is finger-lickin' good. Enjoy....
