While not my first choice in thrift-shopping, Goodwill does have a large selection of clothes and other household goods. The biggest deterent for me is that I've too many times been in there and found a musty, unpleasant odor permeating the merchandise. Sometimes the dust that settles on the older things can really bother those with sensitive sinuses. The prices are above-average and they even have dressing rooms (which you won't always see at thrift stores). So as long as you don't have severe dust allergies and you can commit to thoroughly washing whatever you buy before you wear it, go ahead and shop.

I've been faithfully making the trip out to RW&B for a dozen years now, even though I've moved several times throughout central Jersey. I really have never found another thrift store with the same quantity and quality of merchandise. The place is huge and has high ceilings, so you can avoid finding that sometimes unpleasant "thrift-store-smell" that permeates the room and the clothes. It's always got a bunch of people there shopping so the turnover is very high- which helps items from becoming stale and keep the current stuff coming in. The prices are more than reasonable and there's much more than clothes... they have furniture, books, records, toys, kitchenware, etc. I don't think I've ever left there emptyhanded. All you need is a lot of patience and time!

This restaurant/bar is a mainstay of the area, and most people who are local have been in for a meal or more likely a couple of drinks at one point or another. The bar area is large, with dozens of seats around the rectangular bar, plus side table seating on several walls. There's a couple side patio-type rooms if you're looking to separate yourself from the crowd. They provide some quality acoustic entertainment some weeknights, which is a nice change-up from the typical bland jukebox playlists you'll have in many bars. The only partial down note would be the less than fantastic menu- though it has the kind of barfood and dinner entrees you would expect, nothing really is singular enough to be an attraction in its own right. (Although that doesn't seem to keep the place from being packed for dinner most nights)

Downtown Hopewell Boro is overall extremely quaint, and this coffeehouse is no exception to that rule. There are numerous little nooks and crannies to find a spot to settle down into, and since there are many partitions and columns, it's quite easy to feel like you have a reasonable amount of privacy if you care to read or have a quiet conversation. They also have some weekend music events to check out if that's your cup of tea. Aside from the variety of beverages on menu, they have a pleasant selection of treats for those with a sweet tooth, including ice cream! Plus, there's reading material available to browse or purchase secondhand.

There are few options for food and drink in downtown Bordentown, and Jester's is the most well known and established. The newcomer gets a sense that the majority of people in there have been going there for years, and that most can recognize who's a regular and who's not. The atmosphere is pleasant (lots of dark wood and muted lighting), and the beer selection is varied on tap. (I had a delicious seasonal brew that is rare to find in restaurants) Overall good food, not spectacular, though.

This coffeeshop is tucked away in one of the ubiquitous strip mall-type structures that you find all over NJ- but step inside and you'll forget about any typical run-of-the-mill store you may have expected. They have beautiful textiles and fabrics lining their seating area up front, but also the main room around the corner is roomy and inviting. The window counter seats are particularly great. On saturday afternoons they up the culture factor by bringing in quality music acts, and they have a regular sunday brunch time performer. They get a lot of repeat business and have cold and hot specialties.

The menu is amazing and difficult to choose from- I decided on the crabcake sandwich and LOVED it! They have every cafe-type beverage you could want, and the staff is constantly experimenting to offer new twists on old favorites. The cozy space has high ceilings and nice window seating as well as weather permitting outdoor tables. They also have regular music nights, so you can stop and enjoy some talented eclectic acts while you have your latte. This place is so friendly and relaxed and inviting, more people should check it out. It's only been open since May, so it's still building a name for itself- get in and see for yourself.

As you first walk in, there is a fantastic wall of guitars that I've always been undeniably drawn to, even if I was just stopping in to quickly buy a set of strings. The atmosphere is one that any customer can feel comfortable picking up and trying out any instrument they please. They have good prices and more selection than you would think they could possibly fit into their modest store space. Another appreciated touch is that they provide advertising ground for local events and musically related "want-ads"- serving a community need in that sense.

The staff is fairly helpful and knowledgable, and I've been occasionally shopping there since '95 when I bought my first acoustic guitar there. But I find their prices to be a notch down from the best, and the last two times I went in to buy my preferred brand of strings they were not in stock. As to why or when they would be available no one was forthcoming with information. It's also a difficult location if you're coming off of westbound 195.

I've been in this store more times than I can count, and have purchased my prefered brands of guitar and mandolin strings there regularly due to their highly competitive prices. I love to browse their guitars, and one time I was even given an impromptu lesson from one staff member... this place definitely has it all, and if they don't have it they'll get it for you.
