I once read in an article that claimed there is a communal kitchen in the Upper East side that makes all the food for all the overpriced Italian eateries of the neighborhood. Fortunately, this place does not come from the same mold. THe food is always good, the specials are really good, and the prices are considerably lower than that of he neighborhood. It really maakes no sense when you think about it. Oh yeah, the service is really good and the servers super nice.

If you're in the mood for meat, this is your place. Tons of choices on the menu, and it is quite good. But this place is just so incredibly noisy that it really detracts from the overall experience....

Either go with one other person you can really cozy up to or with a group of poeple you don't really like anyway.

If bad service is in direct proprtion to how pretty the server is, then all's right in the universe at this place. I like to go here pretty early on for breakfast and sit outside then and it's actually quite nice and relaxing.

I nominate this place for hands down the worst service of any restaurant I have ever been to. Our waiter was very preoccupied, as was I at how insanely expensive this place is, though trying to come across otherwise with it's homey menu choices. The only time I have ever gone to a restaurant where I left having eaten nothing because the waiter had screwed up the order so badly. It wasn't incompetence, but apathy. Oh well. At least I didn't have to pay the ridiculous $13 or whatever for a ceasar salad.

I went here one night with friends and reservations and we couldn't even get in to talk to the host because of a velvet rope (!!!!). Then there was apparently an internal problem with the reservation, ie they screwed it up, and the bouncer (?) wouldn't let us in to discuss with the hostess. Eventually it was resolved, and they weren't very nice about it. Once we were seated we did not receive our $15 (!!!) cocktails until after our food started coming out. I'm generally not too picky but I was sort of livid at this point. If you care abosolutely zero about food and service and only that you need a self esteem boost from being on the right side of the velvet rope, then Spice Market is the place for you.

This place is the best thing the meatpacking district has going for it. This place never pretends to be anything it's not, and as a result everything comes out spot on. One of the best NIcoise salads--because it is fresh and straightforward. Don't forget to read the special's board--you'll find more than anything invovling a blue plate up there.

The food here is really, really good. This is not exctly a foodie's dream neighborhood, so it is a welcome addition. Additionally the coolest space in all of the city, underneath the 59th street...

SOme times the sales staff can be a little intimidating, but they have always been more than accomodating if any problems with the shoes

If you're going to eat something as disgusting and unhealthy as chicken wings, do it right and actually eat some good ones, not some sloppy ones from the pizza place around the corner.
