This place is a pretty decent place to get your hair cut. I've never gone for any other services, so I cannot comment. They are a pretty good place to go especially since they generally allow for walk-in service. They have a special for daytime walk ins receiving $5 off, but the hair cuts are pretty pricey (around $70), so it's not great. Also, I feel that men fare better here than women.

This place is hands down the most expensive food store I have ever seen. I noticed that canned goods, teas, etc were about $2 more than anywhere else. Also, miscellaneous items were almost laughably more expensive, for example a small pineapple priced at $7 that was priced at $2.99 at the veggie store at Chelsea Market. This place was shocking, but I actually got a good laugh about it.

This is the place to go in the neighborhood if you need things like flour, canned goods, etc. The prices are the best anywhere. Also, the beef is really good, and the prices cannot be good. Also, the cheapest place to buy beer in the neighborhood (except for when on sale at Rite Aid). The place takes some time to get used to since it is sort of madness inside, and then you have to walk around all the fancy scenesters on the sidewalk with your groceries.

Sometimes I like to go to Zabars just to look around. If this is your purpose, try to pick a good time of day, though it doesn't matter much because the crowd tends to be pretty pushy and annoying....

I like Zabar's because I have been able to find products here that I have failed to find elsewhere (ie Kressi vinegar)

This is the most expensive grocery store I have ever been to. Generally when I go grocery shopping I end up going to about 5 different stores because I know the best deals all over time. I don't ever go to D'Agostinos because I have yet to find anything here that is less expensive than anywhere else. The only time I end up here is because they have a large frozen food inventory.

As one who does not live on the upper West side, Fairway is a rare treat, but what a treat it is. Deal with the crowds, yes, but this place is true shopping experience (don't forget to pick up some beer) that ruins grocery shopping anywhere else and reminds jaded New Yorkers just what we forget about the outside world.

I don't mind Whole Foods as much as I thought I would, that I would find the prices insanely expensive etc. But I have found that there are a few items priced lower than many other stores. Of note, I find that dairy products especially yogurt, are chepaer than anywhere else. Also, frozen products are priced very well, especially the Whole foods brand frozen items such as fruits and vegetables are almost $2 per bag. Also the Whole Foods canned items are a good deal. It ain't Trader Joes, but I do appreciate the effort.

This is a really fun, destination type of place, even if you don't intend on buying much of anything. BUt no matter your intentions, because you will not be able to resist. THe hot chocolate is the best I've ever had. Make an afternoon of this place, go for a walk, bring a friend, and sit down at the bar over a cup of hot chocolate, I like the spiced one.

For the most part WM is a good store for basic groceries. I do not however recommend them for their produce, not because of quality but because the value is not worth it, go to the vegetable store at Chelsea MArket instead.
GO to WM for: chicken, pork (NOT beef), seafood, dairy products.
I say this in terms of value. For general groceries, i.e. flour, go to Western Beef.

This place is a little pricey and I can think of a bunch of other places where I'd rather spend the money. But, I did eat the tuna with cilantro sauce there one night and it was so good that I had to go back the following week and order it again (I think the waiter thought I was crazy). Also, the mezze platter is one of the best, and a total steal at $10.
