I first enjoyed Tom Douglas' handiwork at the old Cafe Sport (Now Etta's Seafood, owned by Tom) in the Pike Place Market in the mid-1980s. My wife and I have eaten at Dahlia Lounge regularly since it opened, and when I have a lunch meeting in Seattle I invariable choose Dahlia Lounge. The decor is dark and redolent in mosaic Dahlia's, which inspired me to plant dahlias in my garden! I have my favorite table, the food is always marvelous, and Colleen and R.E. take great care of me. When we make it in to Seattle for Dinner, R.E.'s wine list is perfect!

Gilbert's has been around I think since the mid 1990s, and it is a wonderful place to stop for breakfast or lunch and watch the fancy cars drive by to and from Medina. For a healthy breakfast I order the granola (very heavy on the dried fruit) or an egg white omelete (still very large).

Holly Smith took over as chef/owner of Cafe Junita in 2000, and elevated the cuisine to a new level. Always a reliable place under previous owner Peter Dow, the cusine is more inventive and the execution is wonderful. The extensive wine list includes pages of Italian wines, including top producers like Gaja. And the waitstaff are attentive and knowledgeable.

We've been to Nobu in New York City (and Malibu), and a few nice Japanese restaurants in Hawaii, but Nishino is the best. Chef/Owner Tatsu Nishino is a friendly perfectionist, and his Omakase (chef's choice) dinner is always different and always scrumptious.
