Over the past 18 years my husband and I have enjoyed a day at the races.
Tampa Bay Downs is just north of Tampa and we go south to Oldsmar and then east onto Race Track Road.
This business is only open in the winter months as it is way too hot in the Florida summer.
We have been lucky enough to get in free on several occasions.
The last few years the development, where we live, have got up day trips. For around $17 we get a seat in the box and a luncheon.
It is easy to put bets on. Even better when you win.
There is plenty of parking.
A fun day out for the family. So if you are in the area give it a try.

When we owned our restaurant we used to purchase our Greek Spinach Pie, Baklava, and Wedding cookies from Hellas restaurant and bakery. They are just amazing.
Hellas Restaurant is located on the main street of Tarpon Springs sponge docks area. It is across from the water.
It is a large restaurant with plenty of tables and seats.
I have tried several of the Greek dishes but always come back to the Lamb Shank. You just can't beat it.
The prices are a little higher than the back street restaurants. This is definitely a tourist trap. However, you will enjoy the food.
You can either park in the $3 parking areas or drive around the back and park on the street for free. I have never found a free parking space right by the water.
If you have half a day to spare then check it out.

A friend and I went to Tarpon Springs on Wednesday. I had a B.O.G.O.F. at the Dodecanese restaurant and bakery.
It was 11.45 a.m. and we were the only customers. We split a Spinach Pie, which was hot and tasted great. Then I had the Greek Style Grouper sandwich in Pita bread and my friend had the Char-Broiled Chicken Sandwich. Our meal also came with bread.
We both ended up bringing a box home.
Good service. Very clean restrooms.
Prices were $5.95 to $7.95 for sandwiches.

We had been at Busch Gardens for the morning and were both hungry. We passed several restaurants on Fowler until we came to Longhorn Steakhouse.
It was around 1.00 p.m. and the restaurant and parking area were quiet. We had the choice of a booth or table and settled on the booth.
Our server was very attentive and took our order straight away. We both decided on the "all you can eat liver and onions". Len had his with French fries and I chose the sweet potato.
With the first serving the liver was a little on the dry side. When we had our second plate we were just expecting the liver and onions, which they give us at our local one, but we again had the potatoes. Our liver was cooked less this time and much more tender.
I could have quite happily just had sweet potatoes as they were really large and cooked to perfection.
A really good meal and very inexpensive. It was around $7 per person. We came out full and will be going back.

British Airways lost my luggage when I traveled from Tampa Florida to Gatwick, England on 11th/12th of August.
I had a plastic bag with my ticket, passport, small purse for money/credit cards, and supposedly 1 day supply of meds. Lucky for me I took 3 days with me.
I am back in the United Stated and my luggage is still nowhere to be seen. I had to go out and buy everything from underwear, to clothes, to toiletries, and the lost presents for my grandchildren and my 90 year old Dad. I even had to buy 'throw away' cameras as both Len's and mine had to be in the case.
I phoned B.A. in England and Gatwick airport several times a day. Len phoned and emailed Tampa for me.
I spent almost a day waiting in my daughter's doctor's office to see her, to get pills to get me through the 19 days.
Upon my return I had British Airways at Tampa airport send all my details to the baggage claims department which is at 7520 Astoria Boulevard, Jackson Heights, New York.
I then spoke with the customer service people and they asked me to fax over the receipts for the doctor's visit and the emergency items B.A. had allowed me.
I received an email from Jackson Heights asking me to mail out the items they were unable to read. Now I didn't know if it was the fax I had sent or the copy of the claims form that Tampa had sent them.
Can you believe I am unable to contact them. They do not have a telephone number for the public. I emailed them and got a 'canned' reply but nothing else.
This is going to be a long process and right now British Airways doesn't look as if they are going to give me the help I need.
After 45 days they can start to process my claim but I have to find the receipts. Who keeps all their receipts? I certainly don't.
Len couldn't wait. He has already been out and bought another digital camera to replace the one in the case. I am not spending a penny more, after all I am already out a couple of thousand dollars.

Len has some really nice gold bracelets. They are really heavy. One of the safety clasps wouldn't work on one of them. We were in Gulf View Square Mall a couple of weeks ago and saw Repair Plus.
The gentleman took a look at Len's bracelet and said that he could fix it while we were shopping. It would cost $14 plus tax.
We did our usual walking in the mall and then came back. The bracelet had a new clasp on it and fitted Len's wrist securely.
We paid the man and told him that we will be back with other repairs.
This is one of the middle island stands in the mall. It is located near the news and lotto stand.
Worth a visit if you need a repair.

We were so lucky. We went to a seminar earlier this year and got the above. All we had to pay was the $37 or so for taxes for a two night stay.
Check in 4.00 p.m.
We arrived at 2.00 p.m. and got in straight away. We asked for a room on an upper floor and we got the highest, the 6th.
Our room had 2 Queen sized beds, plenty of furniture, a kitchenette, and bathroom. We were very happy to have the fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee makers, iron, and ironing board. We also had a safe free of charge.
Wireless Internet service was free for the whole resort.
There were 2 hot tubs and a large pool. A pool bar, changing rooms, and a gym.
In the hotel itself were a couple of restaurants, a movie theater, and a tourist shop.
All in all a very nice stay.
Room prices on the back of the door. $200 a night. Certainly not worth that but if you could get it under $100 it would be worthwhile.
Checkout a breeze.
Located on S.R.535, close to the I 4 and International Drive. Restaurants all around it and a great outlet mall about half a mile away.

We had planned on eating at an Indian restaurant in Palm Harbor yesterday. We drove down to Countryside Mall and would have stopped there on the way back.
There was a really bad accident on U.S.19 on the way down so we stayed in the Mall for a couple of hours. I telephoned the Indian restaurant and asked if the accident had cleared, as it was by their restaurant. They said it had.
Wrong, all of the northbound lanes were closed. We had to detour several miles and then try to get back onto U.S.19.
So we were hungry by the time we got back to our area. We tried the Olive Garden and they were taking names. Forget that.
We ended up in the Quiznos Sub shop, just south of Embassy Crossing, on the east side of U.S.19.
There is a small amount of parking outside so we were lucky to find the cafe almost empty. Len decided on the large black Angus steak sub @ $8.39 and I had the regular prime rib @ $7.29.
We had a buy one get one free if we ordered two fountain drinks. Len had diet soda and I had the grapefruit and cranberry.
Len got his first so I handed the lady a coupon and $20 while the guy was toasting mine. He then went to wrap it. I asked if I could have some salad in mine. I actually got 4 or 5 very small squares of tomato.
We both ate half of our sandwiches. They were very good. If I hadn't have had the coupon, our lunch would have been almost $20. It actually cost us $11.95.
Good but expensive.

I normally get my gas at the Wal-Mart Superstore to save 3 cents a gallon. The only problem is, that I am not always in the area, and therefore wouldn't save money driving the extra distance.
Yesterday I saw $2.85 a gallon at the Hess station on the south west corner of U.S.19 and Main street. This is a busy intersection but I had no problems entering the forecourt.
I used my credit card otherwise I would have had to pre-pay cash inside.
The process was quick and the outside of the gas station was clean. Burger King is on the north west corner and Walgreen's on the south east corner.

Last week I had a C.D. mature and I wanted to check all banks before re-investing the money. World Savings couldn't give us the deal we wanted so I phoned around.
I spoke to Nick at the Suntrust bank, on the corner of Main Street and U.S.19. He was really helpful and I told him that I would come into the bank once the funds were in my bank account.
Len and I headed in there on Monday afternoon. He got up from his desk and I said "Hello Nick". When I gave him my name, he said that he had phoned that morning, as a courtesy. I had been at work so missed the call.
He wrote up the C.D. for us and went over every detail. He was really professional and did a great job.
I was very impressed.
