It's difficult to find someone who can cut all 4 of my kid's hair types well. Lynn at Star Image has done a great job. In fact, strangers always complement my children's haircuts. The salon has little chairs for small children and a big screen t.v. where they can pick a movie from over 200 listings. Of course they also have the usual lollipops, stickers and balloons. Everytime we go it's more of a carnival outing. My kids reallly enjoy getting their haircuts there. Amazingly, the price is not much more than Supercuts.

The only reason I'm posting the name of my hairdresser is b/c I'm moving! Any woman knows that giving the name of your hairdresser out to too many people will guarantee that you'll never get an appointment. Therese is really a top-end hair designer. For years I travelled to the city for a good haircut (a full day outing) until I found her locally. The best part is she is reasonable in price. I get an amazing haircut for under $60. The drawback is getting an appointment but as long as you make your next appointment 6-8 weeks in advance her availability is good. Her direct line is (408) 270-8743.

I highly recommend this place for children with reading issues. My son was slow to read and needed extra help at the end of first grade. The Reading Clinic evaluated him and developed an individual plan with a private tutor. The results have been amazing! At the beginning of the year he read with great difficulty. Now, he is reading at grade level for a second grader and is a very confident reader. He loves to read! The Reading Clinic is not one of those "mass production" type tutoring places. They cater to the individual and really focus on reading skills. It's definately worth the investment.

I have 4 kids and tend to move around a lot so I've been through many pediatricians. Dr. Michelle Loftis is by far the best we've had so far. She is great with the kids at their level and also excellent at communicating with parents which can be the most difficult part. I never feel rushed at her office and she will always return a phone call promptly. Her staff is also very attentive and answers many questions. Whenever I've wanted my children seen, they've always managed to fit us in that day! It's hard to find service like this from a doctor's office these days. The group that she is in, Ramblc Pediatrics, also has saturday hours for sick kids which is great.

I've found it very difficult to find a good housekeeping service that shows up on time and cleans the house well. Ninfa, the owner, always cleans with her crew so she checks the whole house before leaving. She usually arrives with 3 other women. She has very little turnover in staff. They work very hard and have been very receptive to any feedback or changes we make. She brings her own supplies but will also use yours if there is a particular brand you like. In the 3 years she has been cleaning my house she has always been very punctual or called if she is running even 10 minutes late. A "best kept secret" which I'm only sharing since I'm moving out East!

I recently had a mice problem in my basement and attic area. I found Kilroy Pest Control very responsive and reasonably priced. They set the traps and came back to check them and remove any used traps. They got rid of the mice and had very helpful recommendations for preventing their future invasion. They also didn't push any other pest control services.

I've owned a pool for over 10 years and it always seems that the pool maintenance guys either over chlorinate or under chlorinate the pool. After trying many pool service companies, I've finally found one that does the job right and doesn't try to sell me additional pool equipment that I don't need. The owners Larry and John have been in the business for years and know a lot about pools. If I ever built a new pool I would hire them as consultants to check the pool construction work. A great find!

He cleans our chimneys once a year and has repaired cracks in the firebox and done a great job - no mess inside or out. He take a lot of care in covering any rugs or furniture prior to cleaning.

They are very professional and used to all types of landscapping both commercial and residential. They'll work with your architectural plans or they can help you create your own. They don't hire temporary laborers - every employee is on staff full time. There is always a supervisor on site who speaks english and can answer any question.
We had a very involved project with an outdoor kitchen, fireplace and living space and they were very familiar with this type of work. They always call you back immediately and were very flexible with changes to the plan without incurring significant additional costs. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for and in our case we got a perfect yard.
