There aren't many authentic Chinese restaurants here in Alameda, however, East Ocean is one of the authentic Chinese restaurants that serves Hong Kong style food. At lunch they go all out with dimsum items that brings many East Bayers out to feast on the delicacies of Chinese cuisine. Their dimsum items are delicious and so are their noodle dishes. One item I wouldn't order though is "gai si yin min" which is a chicken strip braised noodle dish. When we got the dish, at first we couldn't find any chicken at all. But on inspection, we found little tiny threads of chicken. Usually the chicken pieces are larger, but it was a total rip off here at East Ocean. I'd stick to the dimsum items for lunch.
I've been here for lunch a couple of times, but I found their dinner items to be a bit too salty (maybe with hints of MSG?). But other than that, East Ocean is a pretty good Chinese restaurant, considering the limited choices we have in Alameda.

This place has been here for years and is run by the same family for a long time. Their food stresses the homestyle Mexican type of cooking and is nonetheless excellent. Their burritos are wonderful, both meat and vegetarian. Their portions are very large as well and are reasonably priced. Most dishes come with rice and beans, and compliment each dish you order. When the food comes out, it is hot and mouthwatering. I can tell that a lot of love goes into the cooking of this food. I recommend this restaurant for a good family homestyle cooked meal for a Saturday or Sunday lunch or dinner. Many of the items are familiar to most American diners, so the options for food are very large.

This place is off the hook! It's awesome, and open all hours of the day. I went here a couple times after midnight to enjoy a light snack including salsa and chips, some beans and rice, and other good Mexican wholesome foods. The waiters and waitresses here are friendly and very "a la Mexicana!" Most of their dishes are good, although I have not tried too many besides the usual enchiladas (excellent), and quesadillas (so good!). The prices are very reasonable as well.
I recommend this place as a good hang out place with friends and family. If you're ever hungry at 11pm, come here! they're open!

Sushi house has a great selection of sushi and Japanese food, and the price is reasonable. However, the service is not. They are slow, and at times rude. Many of the workers are Korean, and I often hear them chatter on and off in Korean instead of attending to the needs of their customers.
I ordered sushi here once and its presentation wasn't very kempt like what sushi should look like. I inquired the waitress about this and she said "That's the way that sushi is like." I ordered that sushi before, and it wasn't like that. Their food may be cheap and nonetheless taste good, but it is usally sloppy in presentation.
Another thing, expect to wait a long time to get seated (usually a minumum of 30 minutes). This place is very popular with locals and visitors to Alameda. Parking is good though...since it is located in South Shore Shopping Center where parking is bountiful.

This place is really a distributor of food with a restaurant next door, under the same ownership. It's always bustling with lots of people ordering food, from the variety of regional cuisine dishes (Northern and Southern foods), drinks (try the Maaza) and desserts (try their Gulab Jamun!).
The food is cheap, but that's because it's self-serve. You order, and you wait for your food to come out. There are barely any places to sit, so often times you have to eat at a standing table or just eat standing.
The food is authentic, and hence lots of Indian people come here to eat. Most of their entrees are really spicy, so drink lots of water, or get a mango lassi to accompany your food.

The food here at Raja's is unique to the region of Punjab. The food is not too spicy, unlike South Indian restaurants (Punjab is in the north). I went to Raja's both for lunch and dinner, and I prefer Raja's more for dinner. The Lunch is a buffet, which has very few dish selections. They offer very little options for vegetarians during the day, which I assume is to cater to the general meat-eating population. At dinner, the prices are much more expensive, but the selection is much more. The prices are somewhat expensive for the ingredients that went into the food. For example, aloogobi which is cauliflower and potatos was about 9 dollars. Many of the meat dishes were just as expensive.
The prices may be expensive here at Raja's-- however, the taste is what you are paying for. In this way, they well satiate my palate for true Punjabi cuisine. Much of the cuisine is different in India. If you are ever in Davis, go to Raja's and treat yourself out to real Punjabi khana (khana = food).

This place is a hole in the wall on Telegraph Avenue. There isn't much seating, and it's all self serve (water is free and in a fridge in the back for your self-serve needs!). This is why the prices for the usual Indian dishes are very cheap and very reasonable for college students and adults alike. Their naans are very famous, you should try them.
They are very fast with your orders, which I like very much-- but they often make mistakes. I often order roti (flat wheat bread), but they often make mistakes and give me naan instead (white flour bread). They are the same price, so I don't mind...but that 's the only real con that I have about this place.
Another thing is is that if there is an event in Berkeley, this place gets into a frenzy. It gets VERY busy and you probably cant find a place to sit, unless you sit with some other people at a table. But other than that, this place is great.

This Ton Kiang is very busy at night. Both Chinese people and non-Chinese come here to eat an assorted variety of dishes from the Hakka Cuisine. It's a little different, and in my opinion a little spicier.
Their specialities here are their seafood dishes and are well known for their dimsum. They serve dimsum at all hours of the day, even late at night. What I dislike about this restaurant is its location. It's on a busy street (Geary), and parking is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND. You may have to park on a side street and walk a couple of blocks.
The food is good, albeit it is on the expensive side. But if you're willing to spend more, this place is for you

Sophia's is one of the few Thai restaurants here in Davis, CA. They serve lots of meat and vegetable dishes. However, I would stay away from the meat because many of the meat dishes I ordered (beef), the meat tasted old and slightly rancid. I highly recommend their Thai Ice Tea because it comes with free refills. However, it is about 3 dollars, which is considered expensive for a drink.
The portions here at Sophia's are average sized. However, I do like their Thai Room, which I recommend, where you sit on cushions, much like in a Japanese dinner table sitting on the floor. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and greet you with the commonplace "Thai hospitality" and a smile.

The buffet here at Kathmandu is to die for. From the naans and rotis, masalas, curries, and daals, Kathmandu has it all. This is probably the most authentic Indian-style restauarant here in Davis, and is also one of the most reasonably priced restaurants. For dinner, the portions are large and very reasonable for a students budget. What's unique here is that the restaurant is Nepali - so much of the food is a blend of both Indian and Chinese cuisines. For example, they have many noodle dishes (much like a chow mein) that taste very Indian, but look, in essence, Chinese. I highly recommend this place for a nice bite to eat with friends and family.
