Vik's Distributors is a great to get Indian groceries at whole sale prices. Many Indian markets are pricy in Berkeley, CA, but the prices for groceries here at Vik's are reasonable -- very much at whole sale prices... much like the Costco of Indian grocery stores. They have a wide selection of Indian snacks (such as chanichur and Indian sweet/dessert mixes), as well as a great source of Indian spices (such as lots of cumin), and flours. They also offer different types of parathas (pancake like flours) and freezable/refridgable naans and rotis. This place has all the groceries you need to cook a delicious Indian meal at wholesale prices. Highly recommended.

Kim's Mart, also known as "Han kuk shik-pum" (Korean Market), contains many different Japanese, Chinese, and Korean goods. The workers here are very friendly here.
They sell lots of Asian products such as Pocky! sticks and Shrimp Chips, as well as freshly made kimbab sushi, and seaweed salads.
The selection here is great, considering the small size of the place. Every turn you make, you will be amazed at how much Asian goods are cramped inside. Many of the procesed/packaged products such as chips and snacks, however, are quite expensive if you compare the prices to Asian markets in Sacramento, CA. But since we only have one Asian market here in Davis, this is the place to get Asian products. However, the freshly made food (such as kimbab and seaweed salad) are reasonably priced and are comparable to many Korean markets in Oakland, CA.
If you want a quick "Asian" bite of food, come here since you'll find lots of interesting and delicious snacks to snack on!

This place, unique only to Davis, CA, is the best to get the best of out the world in Davis, CA. What I mean by that is that Davis Food Co-op sells items from throughout the world (including lots of Asian and Indian products), lots of different spices, and lots of organic food/grocery items. This is the place to get the freshest food items.
My friends often complain about how there is a lack of diversity in the food/grocery selection in Davis, but Davis Food Co-op satiates our need for diversity. Much like a bazaar, Davis Food Co-op provides us with foods from around the world, in contrast to regular grocery-stores.
I highly recommend this place if you want fresh, and usually organic groceries OR ethnic/world food items AND are in the Davis Area. This place rocks!

This place rocks my socks. My friends tell me that Konditorei is the best bakery in Northern California, and I totally agree. It may be out in the outskirts of Davis, CA (far off on 5th Street), but this awesome bakery serves the best pastries and cakes that I have ever tasted. Everything is baked fresh in the morning, so I highly recommend coming here in the morning to get breakfast. Later on in the day, food gets old, so it won't taste as good and fresh as it would in the morning time.
Even though Konditorei is a bit away from mainstream downtown Davis, this place has a place of its own...in the hearts of Davis locals and visitors. I highly recommend this place for their freshness and great-tasting baked items.

This is the place to make your copies of any sort... and is by far the cheapest in town - 4 cents/pg (a lot cheaper than copying pages on UCD campus where copies are 10 cents/pg). Navin's is conveniently located a couple blocks off from UCD Campus, so it's very convenient for college students who attend UCD.
Many classes have readers and they are mainly printed here at Navin's Copy Shop. But for all my experiences here getting readers and copying papers, I found my experiences to be decent.
The employees here are friendly and knowledgable. I recommend this place to anyone that needs to make BULK copies at a cheap rate.
If you want to make copies, make sure you get there before they close. Businesses in Davis, CA close early, and Navin's is not an exception: Monday thru Thursday they close at 6pm, and Friday and Saturday they close at 5pm.

This place has it all, from books to organizers, to food, to greeting cards, to plush toys. UC Davis Bookstore is the largest supplier of textbooks in the Davis community and is where students buy their books for school. The prices here are list-prices, meaning that there is never a discount on textbooks. If you want discounts on books, you will have to look online.
The reference section is a great source of books and contains lots of dictionaries, from French to Farsi to Hindi to Cantonese... they have it all.
UC Davis Bookstore is the official place to get UC Davis gear..such as sweatshirts, animals that say "Somebody at UCD Loves me", and other great items that represent UC Davis. There are usually sales here, surprisingly, on many clothes items..and there are usually coupons in the Davis Coupon book, which can make sweatshirts VERY affordable for the average college student.
Highly recommended for their clothing selection!

This flower store provides the city of Alameda with a wide selection of flowers. They are opened Monday through Saturday 9AM to 5PM and closed on Sundays. John S Towata Flowers is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Alameda and is just a mere couple blocks from Alameda High School. This place is popular with high school kids who need flowers for prom.
I found the manager of the store very friendly and knowledgable, but his services very expensive.
My friends and I came here primarily to buy corsages and boutonnieres for prom. The selection was fairly good, but was very expensive. I bought a simple rose boutonniere, which was about 9 dollars. Upon receiving the boutonniere on prom night, the quality of the boutonniere was mediocre. The flower used was old because the rose petals were not tight/taut, but very loose.
John S Towata Flowers is one of the few florists in Alameda. I wouldn't recommend them personally if you are looking for a corsage or a boutonniere, based on my experience; however, buying simple bouquets or floral arrangements should be OK. Just be careful and check if the flowers are OK with you.

I've been going to this place for the last couple of years to get a haircut, and this place is awesome and very reasonable because the main haircutter/owner does a great job cutting hair (as well as perms, hair coloring) at a very good price.
This hair salon caters mainly to the Chinese and Vietnamese speaking communities, but all the workers here know English... so language shouldn't be a problem.
Parking is kind of hard to find, but there are some 2 hour parking spaces (free). You usually have to wait for a while because this salon is very popular, so a 2 hour parking spot might not be enough. If you go during noon expect a long wait time.
I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

Me and many of my friends and family have got into car accidents, and this is the place where we get our automobiles fixed. The manager is a very nice and funny lady, who even knows my friends and family because we are loyal patrons at their auto shop. They are a little on the expensive side, but their workmanship is very good. Basically, you are paying extra for better quality work on your car.
Alameda Auto is kind of hard to find at first, so when trying to find the place, drive SLOWLY. It's in a residental area of Alameda. Parking is easy to find and readily available.
Highly recommended for great auto work!

The Bike Barn is located at the UC Davis college campus. Here, you can borrow tools to fix your own bike, but you can also purchase bike parts and accessories here, and also get bikes fixed by professionals for a hefty fee.
Last spring one of my bike tires was unaligned and I wanted to get an estimate on how much it would cost. They estimated it about $60 dollars, for the removal of the bike tire (labor), as well as the cost of the new bike tire. I didn't have my bike fixed at the Bike Barn; however, I did get the bike fixed for a mere fraction of the price (about $10).
The bike barn is conveniently located at the UC Davis campus. Whenever students need to fill up air in their bike tires or screw something tight, they come here for the tools and services (fill tires with air). The fact that it's on campus is ideal for students because students can just drop their bike off and then walk a short distance to class.
The services may be expensive, but because of their convenient location, they save students and adults a lot of time. I recommend this place for busy students and adults who are willing to spend a little more on getting their bikes fixed.
