One of the end of summer events that lasts through the Minnesota State Fair and the start of school is the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, held in Shakopee. The Renaissance Festival is open weekends and Labor Day from mid-August to late September, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The period celebrated by the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is the 16th Century, with a royal court, pseudo-period food and crafts, jousts or other period contests, and costumed participants.
