The Purple Glaze is a great place to take the kids for a fun activity that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
They have a lot of things that you can pick from to paint, which range in price from $4+, I think. Of course, there is a studio fee per person, but they have special days with no studio fee or two for the price of one.
The kids love that they get to squirt the paint on the table, something they would never be allowed to do at home. But the best part is that the kids can make as big a mess as they want and the workers never complain, and mom doesn't have to clean it up.

Trippet's is a great family friendly store. When you walk in you are greeted by a worker who will help you with whatever you need. While you look the kids can play in the play area or watch a video, then when it's time to try on shoes the worker's are pros at checking sizes. They can even suggest little tricks to make the shoes fit better.
They also have a frequent shopper card, which allows you to get your 12th or 13th pair for free and it never expires. When you check out you are entered into their system and they will send reminders to bring your kids in for a sizing, which is helpful for any mom who has suddenly realized her sons toe is curled at the end of his shoe.

If you want some good, greasy home cookin' look no further than Tally's. Tally's is a throwback to the good old days when the local diner was the place to be and everyone knew your name.
A word of warning, be prepared to fight through the haze of smoke from the "regulars" in the front room. But it is worth the second hand smoke to relax in the non-smoking back room and have some good chicken, burgers, or fries.

Houligans is a little restaurant that is easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. On a Friday night our usual wait time is only 20-30 minutes, but of course that varies. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Although you order seperate main courses, all of the side dishes are served family style, which is nice. The chicken fried steak is worth any wait to get in, haven't had a better one yet.

I was amazed at how well Incredible Pizza is run and what a nice place it is. We sat in the "gymnasium" to eat our food (the dessert pizza was a big hit!) and then went for the games! The kids loved it. It's a little expensive if you have more than one kid but worth every penny!
