The Alero on U Street has a unique menu that differs from the other Alero restaurants in the area. The food is great - from the chips to the entrees to the desserts! I always go for the chicken fajitas which actually come with a lot of vegetables and are delicious! Vegetarians - take note - you can order any of the enchilada dishes without meat.

Guapos is a great place to go on Thursday night when you want to enjoy reasonably priced marguaritas and mexican food. The food is not gourmet but it's tasty. The salsa is excellant - fresh and chunky. I enjoy Guapos in the summer - when you can sit outside and have a relaxing meal without the waiters rushing you to leave. Try the fajitas and the corn cakes!

Levante in Dupont has distinct edge because of its location, particularly in the summer when it offers plenty of outdoor seating and people watching! The bread at Levante is great and free - but they usually give you one big piece and you have to ask over and over to get more of it. The food is okay - the lentil soup is excellent and so are some of the appetizers. But the kabobs tend to be overcooked.
TIP - ask for the Levante cold appetizer platter. It's not on the menu but I GREAT value and you get all the favorites like hommous, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, etc.

I am all about supporting a minority female business owner but I was extremely disappointed with my facial at Shohreh's Clinic. My facial was rushed - it should have been 60 minutes but I was there for 45 minutes before I was rushed out of the room because another client was early. The facial massage lasted two minutes and the service provider left the room for half the time. And then I was told everything wrong about my skin and a laundry list of her products that I had to buy. I almost didn't tip - I was so angry at the service.

Thaiphoon is one of my favorite thai places in DC. The problem is that the food comes out so fast that you can't enjoy time with friends and you always feel very rushed. I think the Dupont Circle location is really cramped and busy - so they are trying to get customers in and out. If you are on the run to catch a movie or proceed with your evening - Thaiphoon is perfect.
