I had a craving last night for a good hot dog....was going to go to a local place but it was too crowded....so since I had to to stop at Marshall Fields anyway, I decided to give this place a try.
I ordered a Polish Sausage combo which included fries and a medium drink...it wasn't too bad tho topping out over $5 was a little pricey in my book. The Polish was good....tasty and it was served on a steamed poppyseed bun. Fries were good tho a little on the hot side since they were just prepared....all in all a good meal though a little more in price than what I am used to paying.

In the past 10 years, Thai food has become one of my favorite cuisines...sure its spicy and all but the flavor is fantastic.
I was introduced to this place, Siam Marina, 10 years ago by some good friends of mine. From the outside, this looks like a hole in the wall in the middle of a strip mall...but step inside and you hear New Age music on the stereo system and the ambience is perfect.
The food here is excellent. I've been to a number of Thai places in the Chicago area as well as in other cities, including in Oregon, and none compares to the what this place offers. Start off with Chicken Satay or Spring Rolls or even Shrimp on a Stick, get some hot and sour soup, and enjoy some drunken noodles or some Basil Fried Rice...or even duck...and top it off with some hot tea and if in the mood try one of their desserts....and the prices are not bad as well.
The only drawback to this place (and it might be an advantage because of the prices) is that its BYOB so make sure to plan for that. Otherwise, if you're looking for a great night out at a really neat place, try Siam Marina!

Wendy's has always been a favorite restaurant to go to since I was a kid. Their fresh burgers and fries are among the tastiest and their 99 cent value menu can't be beat. Recently I visited this Wendy's which is near where I live while out running some errands.
If you are looking for a type of sandwich from Wendy's thats beyond the burgers and the chicken they are famous for, you might want to try out their Frescata Sandwiches.
Frescatas are Wendy's version of Arby's Fresh Sandwiches though at Wendy's they are served on a bun. You get your choice of four different Frescatas - The Club, Roasted Turkey and Swiss, Black Forest Ham and Swiss, and Roasted Turkey with Basil Pesto...
I tried the Frescata Club recently which is deli cuts of turkey and black forest ham mounded high on a bun, topped with 2 bacon strips, lettuce, tomato and mayo. It was very tasty and although a little expensive it was well worth it.
Anyway, the particular Wendy's I went to was very clean and service was fast. It never seems that busy so if you're looking to get a quick bite to eat and are in the area, this might be for you.

I have been going to this place on and off since the late 1990s. As has been said, they have an extensive selection of used books....not just recent reads but a lot of books published in the 70s and 80s as well. What I especially like is that on the lower level if its been on the shelves more than a year you get an even further discount (an additional 25% off). So if you're looking for a smaller used bookstore in the downtown area this is the place for you!

I don't like to fuss too much with my hair so when it gets just long enough I need to get it cut, or buzzed off as the case may be. I also don't want to spend a lot of money...these upscale salons and even the stylist in the building I currently work in (401 N Michigan in Chicago) is out of my budget at over $20 a haircut.
So where do I go?
Supercuts in Lansing, Illinois.
I've been going to Supercuts for years...their prices are good ($10.95 most places, up to 13.95 in the downtown Chicago area) and if you call before you come in and time it right, most times you won't have to wait any more than 10-15 minutes. True you may not get the same stylist twice (unless you ask for them) but at least you get a decent cut for that kind of money.
Supercuts has stores all over the Chicago area so if you don't live near Lansing, Illinois, check out www.supercuts.com to find the nearest location.

I've been to Maggiano's twice in the last six months...once was a final get together of a work group in Oak Brook and the other was in Schaumburg to celebrate a friend's birthday. Both times the group I was with ordered the family style dinners which included several dishes. Very much well worth the price and they give you a lot....needless to say, we took a lot of doggy bags home but it was well worth the price we paid for it. This is definitely a place to go to if you're looking for a true Italian restaurant.

Their panini's are very tasty and they serve it with chips and a pickle. I was out more money than I had wanted to be but it was very satisfying and well worth it.

Having worked in this area before where West Egg is located, I went there recently with a friend of mine for lunch. We both had omlettes and were very satisfied with how they turned out. One thing I like about this place is if you want coffee they will serve it in a small carafe so you don't have to ask for refills all the time...in addition I think they use real cream for the half and half...both pluses in my book. If there is a downside, it is a little pricey...we paid about $10 apiece. But all in all a great experience and they also have fast service so if time is a factor, this is a good place to go.

I'm one that likes a cup of coffee and perhaps a sweet roll or muffin in the morning on the way to work. This morning I ended up going to The Bean that is in the Marrriott on North Michigan Avenue. They proudly brew Starbucks Coffee so I knew the coffee would be ok.
Anyway, I decided to get a chocolate chip muffin along with a grande coffee....$4.35 for both which is a little more than I am used to paying. The coffee was fine but the muffin was dry - it did not seem fresh at all. Makes me wonder about their daily sandwiches and other pastries and how fresh these actually are.
Needless to say I won't be dining from The Bean anytime soon...I'll go to the local Starbucks to get the coffee if need be.

Recently a friend of mine and I got together for lunch...we both were looking for something different so he suggested Szechwan House on North Michigan Avenue.
When you get to this restuarant, first you have to go a little east of Michigan Avenue but then you go downstairs to a lovely restaurant.
We both had the lunch buffet. For $9.95 its all you can eat and they have the usual Chinese entrees such as Sweet and Sour Chicken, pieces of Duck, and other various meat/veggie delectables.
This is very well worth it if you are looking for more than Chinese take-out. The ambience is really neat and I would definitely go back there for a nice lunch with friends.
