You'd think Seattle would be a city full of unique coffee shops, but I've had trouble finding a spot that fills my need in providing me with a getaway on a Sunday afternoon or a place to catch up with an old friend on a weeknight. Then, last week I happened upon Joe Bar. Joe Bar is small, but it has seating on a balcony as well as on the main floor. Joe Bar succeeded in providing me with the atmosphere i had been looking for. Interesting artwork, soothing music, warm colors and good coffee makes this a new favorite spot of mine. Perfect for time alone or time with a friend and it sure beats the uniformity of your local Starbucks shop or shops.

For those of you looking for a guaranteed good haircut, check out Coupe Rokei on 1st Ave. It is a bit pricey, but no more than other downtown salons and the service is fantastic. I dream of ever going anywhere else because my hairdresser is GREAT. He changes up my cut a bit each time and I am always pleased with his 'creations'. Little chocolate mints are given out at the entrance to the salon and every time I go there, I manage to consume several cups of the delicious coffee that they serve. My only complaint with Coupe Rokei is the parking issue, but there are several street spots available in the market and surrounding area.

Open from 10am-2am this place is a great spot for food at lunchtime and in the evening and then later on in the night, HoneyHole opens up as a bar. It's the perfect neighborhood spot to grab a bite to eat or have a cocktail later on. I've never had a sandwich I didn't enjoy there and the tomato bisque soup offered on Wednesdays is awesome! It does get a little crowded at lunch, but I recently learned of the delivery option for those who would prefer to eat their lunch in their home or at their desk during the workweek. Something to consider....

Agua Verde serves great food -- be it lunchtime meals, appetizers, dinners or to-go options. You can't lose if you go with any of the fish tacos, especially 'el mero' (halibut). Also, the salsas, specifically the chipolte, are awesome! If you need an extra something to go with the meal, order pico de gallo and a serving of guacamole -- the perfect additions! While there is often a wait for a table, the restaurant is definitely worth it and once you are seated, the food arrives quickly! Also visit Agua Verde to enjoy one of several tasty margaritas. (All of which are delicious!) The food and drinks are affordable, but for those watching their spending, come by Agua Verde after the work day to enjoy happy hour specials!

I've found Pete's market to be the best place in the city for getting advice on a good bottle of wine. No matter what the occassion and what mood I am in, if I go to Pete's for a recommendation on what to buy, I am always pleased with my selection. Pete's has become my regular stop before I go to any dinner party!
