Mysteries, romance, Sci-fi... pretty much all the great genres with a twist of womanism sprinkled in. This is a great little bookstore specially for the female reading enthusiast. They have a pretty decent selection of both new and used books covering pretty much most of the big names on the market. The prices are average, but they do have a very good bargain books section with a pretty large selection. I was able to find the entire collection of one of my favorite fantasy epics, and I snatched them all up at once without thinking twice. Overall, I give Betty's Bookstore a thumbs up for their great selection and reasonable prices.

This is a great Persian super market with a respectable selection of your every day ethnic cooking needs. They recently remodeled and expanded the store to roughly twice their previous size, and they have definitely used the added space wisely. Even though the store is not as big as the gargantuans a little bit up North, they make up in quality and selection what they lack in size. For example, their deli and fresh meats are very well stocked and you can find all kinds of ethnic delicacies, some of which may frighten you if you've never been exposed to them before! In any case, big thumbs up for great selection in a small package.

This is the Vons or Albertson's equivalent for an oriental grocery store, and then some. The sheer size of this place always impresses me, but not as much as when I find something new in there for the first time. They have all kinds of oriental foods, with large selections of noodles, pastries, juices, sauces, and other goodies to make you a superstar oriental chef. But the most impressive thing about this place is the ginormous selection of fresh fish and crustaceans to rival any fish market on the east coast. The prices are better than reasonable and the place is also exceptionally clean. Two big thumbs up.

North Park Produce is easily the biggest Middle Eastern grocery in the greater San Diego area, and it rivals some of the bigger Middle Eastern supermarkets in Irvine and Los Angeles. You really have to go explore this place and check out all the esoteric stuff they have to offer, like ethnic jams, juices, bread, gourmet sauces, beer, rice, etc. They have a full fresh grocery section with all your typical salad needs, but also ethnic leafy vegetables like tarrey, parsley, mint, and other stuff i don't even know the name of. Whether or not you have ever cooked ethnic Middle Eastern foods or not, this place has everything you'll need to cook up a tremendous meal.

I have been receiving my eye care at Black Mountain optometry for the past two years. I have always received great care from both the optometrist and the office staff. They always spend enough time with me even on my followups to make sure there have been no changes in my vision, almost as if it's the first time they are evaluating me. There is never been a problem with my insurance coverage, but I guess that's obviously something you would want to call in advance and make sure there are no problems. The only nit picking I can do is the turnaround time for contacts and glasses, which usually takes about a week.

Silky nails is a great place to get both your manicures or pedicures. The staff is professional, courteous, and they do excellent work every time I've been there. There is virtually no waiting time and you can get in and out in less than half an hour depending on what you're having done; of course, you're definitely better off calling ahead of time for an appointment before showing up at the door. I've been there on several occasions (who's counting anyway?) and can't think of a single complaint. I give this place a big thumbs up for quality, value, and service.

There has never been a long wait for me, even on weekends, and of course you normally don't even have to wait at all if you call in advance. The stylists are all very nice and can usually give you exactly what you ask for; but, unfortunately, they are not magicians like some of us would like them to be. The prices are very competitive with other salons and I think you get more than you pay for. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who needs a good haircut but doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Dlux Cleaners openned recently but you wouldn't have known that based on the quality of their work. If you didn't know better, you would have guessed they've been in the business for a long time. Their prices are very reasonable, and the turn around time is very competitive with other on-site establishments since they don't have to send out their work to another site. No job is too big or small; they clean bedspreads, comforters, sleeping bags in addition to regular clothes. They also clean suede and leather, although this will take longer as they have to send it out to a specialized leather cleaners.
