This is one of those paint your own ceramics type of places that have become fashionable. The premise is you come in, buy a piece of unpainted ceramic and then paint it any way you'd like. You leave it there, they fire it sometime within a few days period and you can go back and pick it up.
I have a few problems with this place. First of all, it's really quite expensive for something that I would likely screw up. One false move of the paint brush and my $25 bucks would become trash. Secondly, I think you have to be a pretty good artist to make the money worth it. Third, for those with kids, I don't think they would appreciate the delayed gratification of leaving their works of art to be fired and they're not the type to appreciate the spendiness of it all.
I prefer the painted penguin in Bloomingdale because it's less expensive and you can walk out with your completed product.

I've heard people oooooh and ahhhhhh over this store and so my expectations were pretty high of my first experience. I found it to be average and not terribly oooh or aaahhh worthy. Perhaps it was just the particular type of item I had and maybe there are other things there that are fabulous, I don't know. I didn't think it was a place I'd continually frequent, however, if looking for something decadent and treatworthy. I think Oberweis is better, but then again, they don't sell chocolates....

This is a funny little resale shop. They have a wide variety of items and it seems to change daily. Sometimes you can find some good stuff, other times, not so much. They usually have several items of furniture for purchase, a wide selection of books and quite a few racks of clothes. It's a bit cramped in there but if you don't mind digging around, you might have some fun.

This is a fairly large resale shop. They have a pretty broad selection of a variety of items. I probably would not go there seeking out good deals on fashionable duds, but it's great for outfitting a new apartment if you're single and not wanting to spend a mint. They have furniture, books, dishes, curtains, linens, obviously clothes and wedding dresses among many other things. It's worth checking out.

This is probably one of the only shoe stores that I know of in downtown Wheaton (with the exception of stride rite). They have better brand shoes there, not your payless shoe source fare. Occasionally they have pretty good sales. I think your major chain would probably get you a better deal on average, but if you're a loyal local shopper and in the need of a good pair of shoes, this is the place for you.

I have gone there exactly once and will never go back again. This is not a comfortable place to eat. The tables and chairs are crowded together. The chairs are small and uncomfortable. The service is mediocre at best. It is not child-friendly. There is no kid menu, no high chairs (that I could see) and no where convenient to put a infant carrier. The food is average at best. The salad was pitiful, limp lettuce and the top of a tomato were just a few items i was unhappy with. It was also freezing in there.
I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

I don't know what it is that sets this place apart from other ice cream places, but it's definitely a step above the rest. I highly recommend a hot fudge sundae with pecans and truffle ice cream or their peanut butter cup sundae. Seriously great stuff. Prepare for a very fully belly afterward because their portions are good size and this stuff is rich. Definitely not for those on a diet!

I think, and I don't mean this to be offensive at all, that this is mostly a catholic-type of store from many of the items that I've seen there, but don't let that stop you from going in if you're not a catholic. I love the gifty types of things they sell. They are really unique and beautiful. They have a good selection of books (found one book in particular that is NOT easy to find just anywhere). The store is spacious, with a big window-ed storefront. Overall, it's a pleasant place to just browse a while even if you don't have a particular "need" for something.

I don't know what it is about this place that makes me so happy. Perhaps it's the fun decor, the way they yell your order out over a microphone from some scribbles they make on an empty paper bag, perhaps it's that chocolate cake. Whatever it is, I am always ready to eat at Portillos.
They offer hot dogs, hamburgers, roast beef, sausage as well as salads, ribs and other fare. I particularly like their roast beef and cheddar on a croissant (heart attack) with a big hunk of chocolate cake for dessert. :-)
This place has been around since I was a kid and I love it as much now as I did then. I highly recommend it.

This is a family-type restaurant with a snow white and the seven dwarves theme. Count on family-restaurant type cooking and large portions. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best part, of course, is their ice cream selections for dessert. If you're feeling particularly hungry, try out the witches brew. Mmmmmmm. I think this is a great place to take the family. I recommend it for people who like going to breakfast every saturday morning and are looking for a good place to frequent.
