Brrrr!! Barton Springs stays pretty chilly even during the hottest days of summer, but its beauty can't be beat. An all natural pool, it lies near the heart of Austin, and it's wonderful to hop into and cool off after playing hard at Zilker. Dogs and kids frolic in the clear water while college kids bask in the sun. Try going on a weekday if you can, when it's less packed, to really get to know this Austin staple.

Zilker Botanical Garden is one of the best things to do for free in Austin, and it's a fantastic date spot. Take your sweetie to the little tea house in the Japanese Garden area to look out and see the city. Stroll through the bamboo forest, which although graffitied, is still lovely. The waterfall is beautiful, and a great spot for a photo op. Be sure to come by when the roses are in bloom, as it's a wonderful sight. This is a instant stress reliever for me, and it's usually very peaceful here.

Zilker is fantastic. It has so much to offer, and it's beautiful too. There's lots of hike and bike trails, and it's a good place to play soccer or disc golf. They have special events all the time, like Kite Day, the Austin City Limits Fest, and especially, the Walk Of Lights at Christmas, which is one of my favorite holiday traditions. You can find all kinds of people here enjoying the nature, and many groups meet here as well.

Good spot for happy hour, with pool tables and patio seating. The decor is really cute, it's set up just like an English pub. It's also a great spot for singles, I know several people who have met their significant other there. Drinks are good, but don't try the daquiris unless you enjoy them with salt mixed straight into the drink along with the salt on the rim. Stick to beer and cocktails. But be warned---it can get VERY hectic and crowded on weekends.

Hilarity abounds at Esther's Follies. We went for a birthday with a large group, and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, especially when one of us became a volunteer for a sketch! The window that's open at the back makes for some awesome improv. Its admission is high though, and it's best not to go too often or you'll see the same skits. But it's well worth it to go at least once--and don't be afraid to raise your hand when they ask for it!

The patio is nice to hang out on, with plenty of shady oaks. The sandwiches are tasty, especially the veggie burger. Plus, after you're done, you can go browse the vintage clothing racks downstairs! And of course, they have live music often.

Try to avoid being sat at one of the small two person booths, as there isn't any room for your food on them. Just specify when you make a reservation, which is recommended. The seared tuna is wonderful, and the specials have always been delicious. They have a nice wine list as well.

Sushi Sake is a must try. It's in the Arboretum area, near Whole Foods and Best Buy. All the servers are very helpful, and the sushi chefs are charming. Be sure to ask about special rolls, as there are a few not on the menu, such as the Spicy Carlos. The Kyoto and the Dragon roll are some of the best they serve, and the fish is always extremely fresh. Try the green tea ice cream or the Rainbow eclair if it's available for dessert.

Good atmosphere, bad coffee. The place itself is really cool to mingle/chill, and the courtyard is set up in a neat way, but the drinks are really lacking. The girl working the espresso bar put milk in my latte (I'm allergic to dairy) when I requested soy, so I had to take it back and got glared at. It can get super crowded on weekends too.
