No checks or credit cards. Cash only. Right across from large brass pig. Get a nut loaf for $2.75, or donuts as big as a baby's head for even cheaper. They make their own bread and have many varieties to choose from and will slice it for free if you ask them. Not a "sit down" type place. Order your stuff and go. Many tasty cakes to choose from as well for very inexpensive prices.
Please support local businesses like this one. You will regret ever buying baked goods from a grocery store again

The most disappointing thing about SAM is its lack of artwork. It is a huge building with tons of space for exhibits, but the three times I've gone there, I've noticed the space is sorely lacking in artwork of any kind.
The artwork that is there is choppy and not arranged in any particular order. It is my belief that putting paint on canvas does not make one an artist, although it seems that SAM does not not share this same opinion. Even local artists (whom I strongly support) need not have one whit of talent to be showcased at SAM. Their lack of discretion when choosing artwork is disconcerting to say the least.
The first Thursday of every month provides free entrance to all art galleries in the city. Please, take advantage of this time and do not waste your money paying for admission.

Paiges regularly has antique auctions and estate sales, but the store is open the rest of the time for down-and-dirty antique hunting.
They have a large selection of antique furniture as well as regular run-of-the-mill antiques, although nothing in the store is 'normal" or "expected". Most of the antiques here aren't of the "sit on the mantle and collect dust heirloom" variety. Rather, it's personal items that peppered the lives of their previous owners. TOys and trinkets and ash-trays.
I was able to find a very interesting slide projector and about 10,000 slides of the lives of the family that took the pictures, spanning a time frame of about a decade. I did not know these people and had no way of knowing who they were or where they lived, but I thought it was an interesting thing to add to my collection, and to allow these people to continue to live through the slides and photos they had taken so many decades before.
That's the type of thing you find at Linda Paiges---personal items that make the difference beween "being alive" and "really living"

One of my favorite antique stores in the greater Charleston area, and one of the two things that I will actually drive into Mt. Pleasant for.
The space is huge and filled with so many things that I can't even begin to describe them all. There is something here for anyone, regardless of your budget or decorating style.
The space is arranged where everything is just out, even though there are different vendors and consigners. There are no booths, and no pesky sales-people hounding you and rushing you through.
Many of the vendors have trunks and drawers and cabinets in their spaces, which make for interesting treasure hunts, as you're never sure what you're going to find.

There were many high hopes when the SC Aquarium finally opened around 2000, but those hopes quickly turned to tears when residents realized that this dream that was 20 years in the making was basically a very large building with alot of empty space.
Not much has changed in the past 5 years. The SC Aquarium is prohibitively expensive to get into, especially if one has 2 adults and more than 2 children that wish to enter. The displays are non-existent, and there are many blank spaces where tanks and exhibits should be.
The staff seems unenthused and unknowledgeable about the creatures they are housing.
It seems more often that not, the SC Aquarium is filled with people attending private parties (that rented the aquarium) and not tourists or locals who want to see local sea creatures. In fact, I can count three occasions where I went to the Aquarium for admission and was told it was closed because of a private party. I had specficially called all three times prior to going (Because I heard this was a common occurence) and was assured that the facility was open to the public. After driving from Goose Creek, and fighting downtown AND I-26 traffic, I was turned away at the door with no apology or explaination from the staff regarding the confliction information I was given earlier.
Cannot reccomend this facility, as much as I wish I could. I am very disappointed in the planning, exhibits, staff, and prices, and feel that by reccomending that one visit, I would come across as deceitful.

As an aquarium owner for many years, I have come to believe that it is impossible to find good fish stores anymore.
However, The Fish Store in Seattle is absolutely one of the BEST aquarium shops I've ever seen in my life.
They have a large selection of aquariums for sale and they're very inexpensive--I was able to get a 30g with hood and light for around $40, which is not a bad price.
Their fish stocks are just in great condition, and in all the years I've gone there, I've never seen a dead fish or even an ill fish in their tanks.
When you speak with the staff, it is obvious that they not only know alot about fish, but that they are genuinely concerned with their fish and take great measures to ensure that customers are buying the right fish for their tanks, and have the proper tank set-up and space needed for those fish.
Highly reccomended that you visit this store. They have fresh and salt-water varieties and the staff can answer nearly every question you pose to them.

I've never seen a store that specilizes in such useless junk in all my life. But I mean "useless junk" in the most positive and affirming way possible.
There is just so much here that I cannot even begin to describe it all. Jokes and novelty gifts, and real-honest-to-goodness items abound. They have purses shaped like poodles and others shaped like coffins. A very large selection of tiny baby dolls that you can hang from string. Alot of tiki things, as well as Hindu stickers.
They have revolving bins of tiny animals and palm-sized mirrors. A bin full of urine collection jars. Gas masks, and glove sizers.
This must be seen to be beleived.

Very nice selection of antiques and kitsch that can be afforded by people on a variety of budgets. They have furniture and a large selection of clothing and artwork, old records and that thing that used to sit on your mother's coffee table when you were younger.
I find it just as fun to walk through here and see how many of these things I either owned myself, or how many were owned by older relatives and friends of the family.
This is a very nice store on 2 or 3 levels (can't remember) and has a very wide and ecclectic range of items that will suit any budget and decorating style.

The aquarium is located downtown on the Waterfront, overlooking beautiful Elliott Bay.
There is a vast array of different animals and sea creatures here, including a giant Pacific Octopus which seems to hover in his tank, eyeing everyone with his oversized eye.
The otter exhibit is fun and exciting, as are all of the tanks and reefs.
Highly reccomended especially since it's on the wonderful waterfront, a place you're sure to spend inordinate amounts of time if you're visiting Seattle.

I don't know whether to consider this more of a souvenir shop, or more of a mini-museum, because it certainly is comprised of both elements.
I find that the souvenirs here are much more inexpensive than at the Seattle Only stores and at the actual tourist destinations themselves, and the selection is much more varied. But scattered amongst the t-shirts and keychains are very interesting things on the walls and rafters.
There are 2 mummies against the wall, many preserved species of animals, odd coins...it's like a mini Ripley's Believe it or Not.
Even if you don't want souvenirs, please go here for the ecclectic collection of just very odd stuff.
