This is an interesting place and seems a bit out of its time. I don't know if it's acceptable to continue to rehash the old myth of the lazy Mexican snoozing under a cactus, but that's what South of the Border does, and they seem to do it with pride.
There is a hotel here, some restaurants, and an amusement park of sorts.
I would only reccomend going here so that you can fulfill the TRUE "road trip" experience. There's nothing really of value here---the hotel is a bit overpriced, the restaurants are below par, and the amusement park would perhaps entertain the under-10 crowd but that's about it.

Carowinds is in the greater Charlotte area and is just a wonderful place to visit if you're too far north to travel to Six Flags in Atlanta, and don't have the desire to visit Walt Disney Land in Florida.
Carowinds has the general run-of-the-mill amusement park staples of fun, which is to say there are many rides that go very fast and are not for the faint of heart.
Perfect place to take your family, especially if you have kids or teenagers.
Many local Coca-Cola bottlers offer discounts on the back of their cans, so keep an eye out for these discounts if you are in the South, as they're seen quite frequently and can get you a couple of dollars off the cost of admission.

You cannot miss the Gay Dolphin on "the strip"--it is located across the street from Ripley's Believe it or Not and has a very large dolphin on the sign.
The store has many levels (Too many for me to remember how many) and has every sort of souvenir you could ever imagine.
They have a very large selection of various shells and dried aquatic creatures (like seahorses) to choose from, and have even more artwork made from seashells as well.
There are your run of the mill t-shirts, shot-glasses, pens, pencils, etc. There is also a large selection of novelty and gag gifts as well.
This is a must see for anyone visiting Myrtle Beach.

Brookgreen Gardens is located off of Hwy 17 as you go from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, in Murrells Inlet, SC.
The gardens are very expansive and have a large amount of statuary and other artwork. This is a grand place to spend the day as you travel up 17 North. Most of the sculptures are based on Greek and Roman mythology, so it would help if you brushed up on your ancient history to understand the significance of the various peices of artwork.
During the Christmas season, they decorate the grounds with lights and such and it makes for a very interesting evening stroll.

People of my generation get a kick out of walking in here and at the same time, walking back in time. It's always a fun place to browse and you may even find yourself buying something here that reminds you of your wonton years of youthfulness.
This is also a great place to shop for interesting Halloween costumes. Fun place with ecclectic atmosphere.

Patriot's Point is located at the foot of the Old Cooper River Bridges and looks out over the Cooper River towards downtown Charleston.
It houses several decommissioned naval ships, including its most famous resident, the USS Yorktown.
This is a must-see for anyone interested in Naval history, Military History, or just US History in general. You can take tours of the ships and see just what cramped living is provided on a ship that is so massive.
I do not believe that the Yorktown is wheelchair friendly, as one must step up and over the portholes that serve as doors.

Ft. Sumter was where the Civil War (or War Against The States) was innitiated.
There are several places to take the tour, one originates downtown, the other from Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant.
The tour is via ferry, and can be chilly during the wintertime, so make sure to dress warmly then (even in spring and late summer when the winds are chilly). The Fort itself is unassuming and has definitely seen better days. Of course, it was built several hundred years ago and amazingly still stands proudly to this day.
Tours are self-guided (as far as I know) and you can spend your leisure walking around the grounds. There is a museum there that tells of the fort's history before and after the Civil War.
Very informative and a definite must-see for anyone who is a local or a tourist.

The course is large and unimposing and gives terrific vistas of Magnolia and Queen Anne Hills. Located next to the Interbay P-Patch.
Has nice mini-golf course for those who are not interested in regular golf. Always a popular place for families and couples.
During the summer, they have Jazz Nights on Thursday with great music and a wonderful way to spend the beautiful summer evenings that Seattle offers.

Very nice shop in Capitol Hill district of Seattle that specializes in Middle Eastern and Indian goods. Mostly incense, clothing, music, and jewelry, although selection is not limited to that.
Very nice selection of essential oils as well. I always make a point to go here when I visit Seattle because of their very unique collection of Middle Eastern goods. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly and I often find myself deep in conversation with both staff and other patrons whenever I go here. They offer coffees and teas and have a small sitting area for those who wish to sit and shop and drink rather than walking around, fearing spilling something on the wonderful items they have on display.

The Ballard Locks is best visited on sunny summer days when not a cloud dares to sully the spotless blue sky that seems to last forever.
The Ballard Locks has two parts--one side (the side with the fish ladder) is on the Magnolia Side. The side with the park is on the Ballard Side, and both sides are connected by the locks, which you can walk across via foot bridges.
The locks themselves are very interesting and it's amazing how they can fit such large ships (like the Alaskan Crab ships) into such tiny spaces. Stand and watch as the boats rise or lower with the water level.
The fish ladders are also interesting and allows people to see many types of salmon throughout their growth cycle.
free admission and parking on both sides.
