Best Fish & Chips stand

Tuesday, March 14, 2006
It's worth the drive to the Ballard Locks just to get a basket of Fish & Chips from Totem. I wasn't expecting much when I dropped in here due to a hard jones for Fish & Chips. It's a little dirty and mismanaged, so I initially turned up my nose. Not so fast! The fish are fresh. Honestly, must have just come off the boat at the locks. Flaky and not too battered so you can actually taste the freshness of the fish. Cheap and fast, just like a fish & chips stand should be. I think I paid $5 and got two fish on top of a pile of chips, which are not thick-cut, but good anyway. If you're not looking for atmosphere, but just good fish, definitely make the journey, and I'd suggest on a sunny afternoon, as they have outdoor picnic tables. They're right across from the Ballard Locks.
