Just walking into St. Cloud you feel like you're entered your Grannie's kitchen -albeit a very stylish Granny. The aroma of biscuits and sweet jam kiss you on the cheek while the very friendly staff leads you to a table. Everything - and I do mean everything as I have sampled it - is delicious on the menu. It takes a little bit to get to your table, since this a larger restaurant and they make everything fresh. But, let me tell you, when the Huevos Rancheros (my personal favorite) arrive at your doorstep, you'll thank me for bringing you here. Yummmmm. It's not too overwhelming, not to skimpy, not too spicy....Just right. Just like Granny use to make. Biscuits and gravy is divine as well. Homemade flaky buttery biscuits that melt in your mouth and just soak up the sausage (or veggie soysauge) gravy.
There are always fresh flowers adorning every nook and cranny and smiles abounding everyone in the place. Honestly, it's out a storybook. I can't imagine why I haven't gone here for other meals, but judging be breakfast, I'll bet dinner is homey and yummy too!!

Tried the restaurant Pair on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at the incredible flavor and preparation of food. And when they call it "pair", they must have done so because each one of their dishes always has a perfectly matched partner. Wait, let me back up. Pair is an adorably decorated, small restaurant on the corner of the U-district and Ravenna. There's just the right amount of French country nicknacks and French country flair (water served in chilled pop-top bottles) to make you feel comfy and ready to eat as you walk in the door. My date and I sat at the bar, which is always my favorite place to sit, and let the very capable bartender help us through our menu anxiety. Everything looked delicious, mouth-water even, trumped only the special which was pan-seared scallops. YIKES! It's all moderately priced and nothing is more that $13 for a plate. Generous portions as well. It's easy to run up a tab here, because you want to order some cheese, then a yummy raddichio salad, oooh then the crabcakes, oh and what about the salmon toasts - Know what I mean? But, it's also easy to stop in for a cheese place, charceuterie and a glass of wine on the cheap. Either way, an extremely comfy, delicious example of chefs putting the wonderful Northwest food to good use.

Seattle is really giving it the old college try at having a food scene, and in many cases they are succeeding. One such case is Crow. I used to live up the street from Crow and watched its growth from vacant office bldg to a rustic comfortable beauty. As far as mid-upscale dining in the city, I think Crow is top notch. And if there's one thing I'd tell you to order when you're there it's the roast chicken. I've probably ordered it myself 5 times. The plates aren't too empty but also not overcrowded. They're just right, as is the atmosphere in Crow. I love sitting at the bar that surrounds the kitchen to watch the masters at work, but the tables are nicely spaced as well, and the huge front windows and tall ceilings keep the place from getting too hot or loud. If you pop in and there's a wait, eat at the bar. Crow has taken careful consideration of the bar menu and the bartender is an excellent resource. Parking is a little scary, but if you park a couple of blocks away, get dessert and walk it off afterward!

If you think authentic Greek food is just gyros and hummus, it's time to visit Panos Kleftiko. It's barely noticeable on 5th Ave North in Lower Queen Anne, but it's kind of better that way. Because it's only 10 tables, it gets a little hairy on the waiting list on weekends. It's really worth the wait, thought. Panos is the chef and makes all the food from scratch. Choose from chicken, lamb or seafood dinners, or do as the Greeks do and order a bunch of mezzes - small plates to share. I'd definitely suggest the kopanisti and baked feta. Honestly, I haven't had anything on the menu I didn't love. They have a good wine list as well, with several by-the-glass options, and like everything else on the menu, they give you a heft pour. All the food is served family style as Panos makes it, so if it's fast food you're looking for, better try Sushi Land on the corner. If you're looking for the best Greek food this side of the Atlantic, eat at Panos!

If you've ever been to the Summer Solstice Festival, you've probably either tried a Ballard Brothers Salmon burger or at least felt some food envy toward another person carrying one of these gigantic burgers. They are oozing with deliciousness, blackened on a bun with aoli. After three years of lamenting the fact that they only appeared at the Solstice, I found out that they had a regular outpost on 15th Ave NW in Ballard. Hallelujah!!! As well as Salmon Burgers, which are their specialty, they have an incredible selection of their NW take on American traditionals like the BLT with halibut, Chicken burgers, grilled cheese, Tillamook of course and patty melts. They also have a pretty good fish & chips option, though I'd say go for the salmon burger every time. There are about 10 chairs around a smal counter, but no tables. Best to carry out. Go hungry and you'll leave happy. This is the best $6 burger I've ever had.

It's worth the drive to the Ballard Locks just to get a basket of Fish & Chips from Totem. I wasn't expecting much when I dropped in here due to a hard jones for Fish & Chips. It's a little dirty and mismanaged, so I initially turned up my nose. Not so fast! The fish are fresh. Honestly, must have just come off the boat at the locks. Flaky and not too battered so you can actually taste the freshness of the fish. Cheap and fast, just like a fish & chips stand should be. I think I paid $5 and got two fish on top of a pile of chips, which are not thick-cut, but good anyway. If you're not looking for atmosphere, but just good fish, definitely make the journey, and I'd suggest on a sunny afternoon, as they have outdoor picnic tables. They're right across from the Ballard Locks.

The thing about the Roanoke is that it feels as if you're at a pub that you built in your backyard and a bunch of people are there hanging out with you. The bartenders treat you as if you're a regular no matter if you've been there once or every night for a month. Always a great selection on tap and Rainier if you're indecisive like me. Not too big, great seating, and, in the summer, take your beer and head out back where there is table tennis. Seriously! You can drink a beer and play some pong. They'll even open it for you on a abnormally sunny Saturday now and then in the winter/spring. Always a good crowd, always a good time.

I don't even live in Capitol Hill, yet I visit at least once a month just to have a beer at the very comfy Summit Public House. I don't know exactly what makes this neighbor bar so perfect. Maybe it's the Hooegarden on tap. Maybe it's the wooden tables. Maybe it's that you can order a pizza next door and bring it over with you. Maybe it's the ever-so-friendly bartenders. Whatever it is, I have such a laid back, great time every time. Parking is hairy, as this is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood, but hey, great excise to take a cab and have an extra beer!

I conveniently found Joe Bar one rainy afternoon as I was leaving the Harvard Exit theater. It was pouring and my car was several blocks away. I decided to wait it out in Joe Bar, though I wasn't really sure what it was. I was so pleasantly surprised that it was a charming cafe serving pressed sandwiches, salads, crepes, wine, beer, coffee and Italian sodas. YEAH!! The crepes are perfectly made with just the essentials in my opinion - ham, gruyere or roasted red pepper and feta. Simple is the key with sammies and salads too. It's sweet French fair in a sweet atmosphere. The kitchen is small, so it can be a little slow on weekends when people come here for brunch, but hey, what are you in a hurry for? Grab a glass of wine, read the newspaper and slow down for a minute.
I've returned many times after my serendipitous discovery.

The store has been open for a while now, but I've just discovered Aprie. Don't know what the name means, but I'm gonna interpret myself: CUTE! Great small labels throughout the store and many different price points. Very friendly, helpful staff without being too pushy. Great accessories, shoes, belts, tights. Great prices on tank tops ($10-15). Always a good sountrack for shopping every time I've visited.
Located between the overpriced Urban Outfitters and the wierd Trendy Wendy on Broadway, this place hits Female Fashion right on!
