We have celebrated two of our five wedding anniversaries at Canlis as well as my husband's birthday and a my Mom's visit from Boston. Canlis never disappoints. The service is IMPECCABLE, the view wonderful and the food is fantastic (read: chocolate lava cake.) I also give Canlis three cheers for having a male AND female wait staff - not something you always see at the country's finest restaurants. Canlis is a class-act.

If you are looking to install a deck or fence on your property, call Don at All Seasons Deck & Fence. He is incredibly professional, thorough and conscientious. His rate was better than All City Fence and I swear, the guy never even took a break when installing over 180 linear feet of fence on our property. He has installed over a half dozen fences and decks in our neighborhood alone. You can't go wrong but you need to get on his schedule early. First-rate work.

Excited for a new dining option around the Seattle Center, I tried out the new Veil restaurant at Aloha and Taylor with my husband and 78 year-old in-laws. While I enjoyed the experience, I recommend you go for a drink and appetizers and decide whether you want to spend the money on dinner. Our dinner (without wine or dessert) was $50 per head.
While I liked the modern, clean decor, my father-in-law said he felt like he was stepping into a steam shower due to the frosted glass and of course, hanging veils. My husband described it as "very LA."
Our appetizer course was preceded by a complimentary shooter of curried carrot soup with creme fraiche - really good (they should have put that on the menu.) Our appetizers included three orders of artichoke soup and one goat cheese salad. The goat cheese salad was excellent and the artichoke soup was described as "good but nothing special."
Dinner included lamb, two orders of the seared tuna and the steak. The steak and lamb were fantastic and while my husband like the seared tuna, my mother-in-law said it did not really have a lot of flavor (that however may have been her.)
While we did not order wine, the wine list looked pretty eclectic and they seemed to be pushing signature cocktails such as "the veil."
Service was excellent and parking was easy.
Decide for yourself but be ready to spend some money.

Try the revamped Space Needle Restaurant Sky City. While it is not cheap ($25 minimum order per person,) we enjoyed a delicious meal on a spectacular September evening. The service was great, our pork chop, crab cakes and Cesar salad were excellent and best of all, the view. A definite for out-of-town visitors or if you need a visual reminder of why Seattle is a great place to live.

JAS Design Build managed the complete design and renovation of our 1907 Seattle Box. While we were warned about the perils of home renovation, our experience with JAS was first rate. Not only are Joe and Kim Schneider two of the most honest, creative and conscientious people we have met, their entire team is dedicated, trustworthy and incredibly hardworking. We found everyone on the team to care about our home and its transformation as much as we did.

Rent a cabin at the Freestone Inn in Mazama WA for a family getaway. The cabins include kitchens, laundry and between 1-3 bedrooms. We rented the Steelhead Cabin and it worked out well with two small children. Children could play safely in the front yard or run around the wrap around porch. Convenient access to resort swimming pool, swing, walking trails and fishing pond. You can order room service and pick it up at front desk. Only drawback was the housekeeping - not great.

Dr. Buccholz has cared for our two small children and we highly recommend him as a pediatrician. He is accessible, approachable, a great listener, matter-of-fact in his response to the latest "issues" in pediatric care and most importantly, extremely connected to children. When one of our children got sick during a cross-country vacation, Dr. Buccholz was available after-hours, on the phone for advice and to cross-check the out-of-state care we received. His offices are clean and well organized. A great doctor and a great practice.
