Creating unfettered excitement throughout the New York food world, Jean-Georges is the latest restaurant from star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Adam Tihany has designed a softly lit, highly polished, austere room as the setting for show-stopping contemporary French cuisine that borrows elements from the chef's earlier successes, Jo Jo and Vong. An emphasis on flourish and fanfare is employed in service. Highlights include asparagus with rich morel mushrooms; Arctic char baked with wood sorrel; and Muscovy duck steak with sweet and sour jus. Memories are made of the chef's $85 tasting menu. Focusing on new French meals, this is a fine dining restaurant. Expect the average entrée to cost over $30, and there's a prix-fixe menu at $85 per person. Plan to dress business casual.

An instant winner when it opened early in the summer of 1996, Stephen Hanson's sophisticated seafood palace gave people a reason to stay in the city instead of tooling out to the overcrowded Hamptons. Housed in a lofty former bank building, there's a raw bar at the back of the multilevel dining room and attractive outdoor balcony seating. A tray of iced oysters is a must. Other excellent choices include Moroccan-spiced red snapper, lobster by the pound, and lightly grilled Asian-accented swordfish. Blue Water Grill offers an American fare with a menu based largely on seafood and the raw bar. Expect the average entrée to cost for the most part in the range of $12 to $20.

The Bastianich family's (owners of Felidia and Frico) comfortable Restaurant Row outpost has three different dining areas. An old-fashioned bar, stenciled ceilings, and wooden beams give the dining room up front a warm and cheery feeling. In back, the greenish, pavilion room with louvered-windows is smaller and more feminine, and the upstairs dining room, with its neutral colors and a gilt-stenciled ceiling, is more hushed and formal. Becco's menu features C'sar salads, and antipasti, as well as "sinfonia di paste"- unlimited servings of the three pastas of the day, swordfish with barolo balsamic sauce, stuffed peppers, pheasant, venison, and a 30 oz. porterhouse steak. This place dishes up Italian dishes. There is a prix-fixe menu.

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! Little Italy is LUCKY to have LA MELA!!!!! The BEST Italian food I've ever eaten! GREAT food and ENTERTAINMENT all for one great price! I'll be BACK! At La Mela, menus are furnished upon request and with disdain. "We feed people," a waiter explains, gesturing to the identical family-styleplatters of gnocchi, tortellini, and linguini; freshly baked loaves of bread; enormous kitchen bowls of salad; and carafes of house red wine at every table. "Come with your whole family," he urges, "with uncles and grandmothers and babies." Occasional outbursts of singing and clapping can be heard from the kitchen, which threatens at any moment to spill into the dining room. La Mela is carnivalesque and cozily cramped with strings of white lights illuminating the outdoor cafe where diners can eat while watching people parade through an equally festive Little Italy. La Mela Ristorante is a place that offers guests Italian.

The service was flawless, the restaurant itself clandestine and the food palatable. I had the chicken miguel, with the angel hair pasta. It melted in my mouth, I savored each mouthful which transported me immediately to Italy.

Chicken Galore is a quick service place that serves you an American menu especially known for chicken. Good food and fast service. Best baby back ribs and chicken around! Excellent fried chicken...for a very tasty healthier choice get the skinless bbq chicken with steamed veggies (yum). The atmosphere was great - no smoking or nothing and the value was fantastic.
