The Beck Cultural Center is currently located at Volunteer Landing, but I think they are doing some major renovations and will be moving soon. Regardless, they have a lot of nifty history about the area, especially with regards to the civil rights movement. The staff are very knowledgeable, but the exhibits aren't interactive. Be prepared to read.

Buddy's is great! They don't consider themselves to be fast food, but they have a drive through and you get your food really fast, so go figure. The barbecue is really good - pulled pork, great sauce. Yum. It's not as expensive as Corky's (and not as good) but it's still great. They take credit cards. Their beans are addictive, but the slaw is kind of bland. What a great local chain!

The Silver Spoon American Cafe is absolutely wonderful. I love the tomato basil soup and their blue cheese salad. Delicious. But the kicker is their dessert menu, which is to-die-for. The peanut butter ice cream pie is divine! It's huge, though, so make sure you have someone to share it with! Enjoy!

The Soup Kitchen has a wide variety of soups to choose from, made fresh every day! They also have sandwiches and salads, but they're obviously famous for their soups. The name makes it sound like a homeless shelter, but it's actually quite expensive. Great food! I love to do lunch there. Enjoy!

The Knoxville Botanical Gardens is a wonderful little secret in East Knoxville. It is over 40 acres of trees, gardens, and stonework that was once a nursery. Though there "Keep Out" signs left over from an era when the gardens were privately owned, it is indeed open for business. Stop by for an experience you won't forget. It's gorgeous!

The Skylift is a must-do for first-time visitors to the Smoky Mountains. You get an amazing aerial view of the town and the mountains with a little excitement to boot. Probably not something you'd want to do twice, but it's a lot of fun. It's not too expensive and the lift comes regularly.

Ober Gatlinburg is a lot of fun! You can get to it either by the Gatlinburg Skylift or by driving. Once you're up there, you can either snow ski, ice skate, or play games and eat. We went ice skating there on our last visit and had a blast. The skiing is pretty casual, so beginners won't feel intimidated. Have fun!

The American Museum of Science & Energy is a world-class science museum. Kids and adults will both enjoy the exhibits. I especially love the whisper chamber and the special exhibit on bugs. In addition to neat science exhibits, you learn a lot about Oak Ridge and its nuclear history. Fascinating. Be sure to visit the gift shop - they have some pretty neat stuff!

Since this is a Ripley's museum, I half expected it to be cheap and gaudy. But it defied all expectations. It's one of the best aquariums I've seen! Kids and adults will love the sharks as they swim right over your head in a walk-through aquarium. I also liked the stingray park - you can pet them as they swim by! It's very educational and exciting. Enjoy!

Puleo's is one-of-a-kind. Okay, maybe not, since they have started making it a chain. But it's great anyway! They are a mix of southern (cheese grits) and Italian (pasta). The steaks are phenomenal - very flavorful. We like to take out-of-town guests here to impress them! Enjoy!
