Willows Run (Eagle Talon or Coyote Creek) are great golf courses for new golfers. The fairway and greens are flawless like high-end courses, but they fairway is also pretty flat. There are some holes with character, but there aren't a lot of traps or hills to cause frustration in a new golfer. I've been a beginner golfer now for about 10 years and appreciate this course. I can focus on consistency and staying in the fairway rather than worrying about how to adjust my stance when hitting on a bad slope.
The best part about Willows is the senior and women's special-- $22 for 18 holes week days. It is great. I can go out after work and get in 18 holes and not be crowded by the people jumping on the course after twilight rates hit.

When we moved into our new house, we quickly realized that we would need screens for our windows. Our builder informed us that they request windows without screens since they are too easy to damage during construction (thanks). Basically, we were on our own for screens.
(Pre-Judy's Book) I pulled out the old yellow book and starting calling window places. Skyline windows was very courteous and helpful. They said they just needed the measurements and a week or two to make them. They even recommended a "for hire" retired gentleman to come out and measure. I was expecting to pay quite a bit for custom screens since it is around $50 for a sliding screen door at Home Depot, but in the end we got about a dozen screens for around $250. The quality is great. They look like they came with the windows.

The Skansonia is a historic ferry boat docked on Northlake way. It is used for different events including my wedding. It has a gorgeous view of downtown and the boat itself has a lot of old fashion charm. It isn't very big. We had about 150 people and that seemed about right, although I think they say you can have up to 200 or 250. It might be too crowded at 250 people. Our guests said the food was really good. I agree, but it is nice to hear that from guests (I don't know if I've ever complimented wedding food). They also have bartenders for hire and you supply the beverages. This was a fun way to personalize the reception by offering our favorite beverages, not to mention it saved us a ton of money.
The people that run the venue run it a bit like a wedding factory. There isn't a lot of customization options. Mostly they told us how it was going to work. For the price and the view, we went with it. I did get a bit irritated at the end of our reception, because they started to clean up before everyone had left (I don't think it was after our rental time either). They said they had to get ready for another wedding that night. I thought it was a bit tacky. You might want to clarify that in your contract.
I also know of a UW sorority that had a dance at this venue and everyone seemed to really like it.

I love going to Molbaks. I'm new to the whole gardening world so when I'm ready to take on a new plant for my yard, I head to Molbaks. I just tell one of the sales people that I am looking for something that goes in the sun/shade/partial sun shade and is low maintenance (always one of my requirements) and they show me to the section that meets that criteria. They'll suggest certain plants based off what I currently have (I bring the little tags so I don't have to remember) and tell me the best way to take care of it. It's like my own gardening lesson each time.
I hear they are bit more expensive than a small nursery, but I think it is worth it. Plus I noticed that they have a sale in the Fall, which I hear is the best time to plant anyway. Oh, and even if you aren't a gardener it is just a fun place to walk around and window shop. They have everything yard-related.

I used to work at Davis Optical on University Way and I have to recommend them for anyone looking for eyeglasses. I know from experience that their customer service is very important. They depend on refers and repeat customers and as a result have been around since 1955/ They will always order a special frame or color if you want to try it--with no obligation to buy. They'll consider your prescription and help you find glasses that work best for you. In fact, they won't let you buy a pair of glasses that you look bad in (unless of course you insist), because it as a reflection on the person that helped you. Everyone is trained on what sort of glasses and colors look best on different faces. When you go, feel free to take your time and ask for help. They'll give you a genuine opinion, not a sales pitch.

I quickly stopped taking my car to BMW Bellevue. The service people kind of annoyed me. Only the person assigned to my file would help me, even if they were the only one busy. Then they seemed to try to up sell me on oil change services. I put up with that for a while, because they are really convenient and clean (I'll admit it).
However I had to break free after they told me I needed a $650 service because they could see in their records that it was due. I should add, I bought the car used and the previous owner seemed to have all the maintenance done at the dealer. When I took my car to another mechanic to have this service done (at a significantly cheaper price), I was told that it definitely didn't need to be done. In fact, it appeared it had just been completed (probably right before it was sold). Based off that experience, I think BMW Bellevue depends a little too much on what their computer says and they aren't really looking at the cars. That was enough for me. I already knew I was paying too much for convenience, but to pay too much for people that didn't know what they were doing isn't right.

If you are looking for unique, elegant music for a wedding or other event, Stanley Greenthal's Celtic music is wonderful. My husband and I had Stanley play at our wedding and reception. He played a song that he wrote for his own daughter on her wedding day. His vocals and lyrics were just perfect. In addition to his music being great, he is so kind to work with and very professional.
If you are interested, you can actually hear a lot of song samples on his Web site (www.stanleygreenthal.com). It is interesting how different each song sounds. I, myself, am not a big Celtic music connoisseur so I was afraid that everything would sound the same. It really doesn't. According to his Web site he uses a variety of instruments (Guitar, Mandocello, Violin, Concertina & Pennywhistle), which probably helps keep the music interesting.

I used Village Cleaners to clean and perserve my wedding dress. The place is really nice, clean and the staff is easy to talk to. They explained the difference between the different wedding cleaning options. You'll need to decide if you want your dress cleaned, hung, pressed and/or preserved. I'm sure I did standard cleaning and preeserving and I'm pretty sure the prices were reasonable -- it was definitely more than cleaning a suit and definitely less than the cost of my alterations (which were done elsewhere, but Village Cleaners does alterations also).
Overall Village Cleaners is nice. Sometimes they are a bit pricey for everyday items, but I always use them for nicer pieces, because I know they will take care of them. When it came to my wedding dress, the price was better than I expected.
Regarding the comment on timing: It seems like they just clean the dress, press it and put it in an acid free box (or two). I think you are supposed to get it re-cleaned and preserved every 10 years so if it hasn't yellowed, I don't think it is ever too late to get it cleaned.

Dr. Butson is great. He is really friendly and genuinely nice -- not to mention he is a great dentist. He did the non-surgical part of my dental implants. I felt so comfortable in his office that I continue to see him for my cleanings. He does some teaching at the University of Washington dental school so he keeps up on all the latest innovations in dentistry. He's pretty humble, but I get the feeling he is well respected in the industry. He is busy, but he always will find time to squeeze me in.

I loved my wedding photographer Starr. In fact it has been over two years, and I still feel it is necessary to write a review on her. The pictures turned out beautiful and she was so nice to work with. Her photo style is original, classy and has a photojournalistic look. The black and white outdoor photos were the best. I still get compliments on my wedding picture that sits on my desk.
I recommend Starr to anyone that wants high quality photos. I already plan on going to her for my family pictures (when the time comes).
As for her price, she is a bit pricey if you do an hourly comparison, but you get all the photo negatives. In the long run we saved hundreds, if not thousands, reprinting the photos ourselves.
