So much of their stuff is as comfy as PJs. If you're lucky enough to work in a casual environment, you could easily take your Lucy-clad self to work and barely feel like you've had to get out of bed.
I predict that Lucy will become de rigeur for the suburban mom as the clothes seem perfectly suited to walking with strollers, meeting for playgroups, and school-dropoffs while on the way to Starbucks.
As an added bonus, the staff at every store i've been to have been sweet and pleasantly chatty. They also have great sales!

Blah blah blah Fenton's ice cream. Fenton's is all you hear about in the east bay and that's fine if you want a specialty sundae or a banana split big enough for 4 people. But sometimes, it's a warm day, and you just want to take the kids and get a cone.
For such occasions, give the Ice Cream Dock a try. They have a small but delicious selection of Lapert's Hawaiian ice cream including kona coffee and tropical fruit options. There are tables outside the little storefront and it's directly across from a lovely little lake that kids can explore while you leisurely enjoying your ice cream. Parking is easy since it shares the Safeway complex

The food, oh my dear lord, the food. I cant even express how delicious everything was except to use that over-relied-upon word: heavenly.
Elaine Bell catered our wedding in Glen Ellen which was basically a dinner party for 50. The food and service were spectacular. Each course was a success.
Many of our guests asked for Elaine Bell's contact info after the wedding. I think that was proof enough of the success of their staff and kitchen.
Part of their service includes an account representative whose work completely eliminated our need for a wedding coordinator. Also, we were allowe to bring 2 guests to our tasting which was a great way to judge what other people than just ourselves enjoyed.
I cannot recommend this company highly enough.

The Fat Lady, in Jack London Square, has good solid food. Nothing fancy. Nothing crazy. And they do have a great brunch.
But the Fat Lady goes ALL OUT for Halloween. They decorate the interior of their old building from top to bottom a few weeks before Oct 31. I mean they commit to the decor! It's like a haunted house with a bar and steak dinners. Plus they have raffles and contests for all sorts of prizes.
It's a great little activity for one of the evenings leading up to All Hallow's.

Travellers who prefer things that are a little more unique or have had actual design concepts applied to their construction should visit Flight 001.
The store has loads of interesting accessories from luggage (of course) to gadgets. Not only is it a great place to go for your own travel needs but it's a veritable jackpot of gift ideas.
For those not in SF, there's a website: www.flight001.com

If you live in the Laurel, you have this nice little spot right on MacArthur. The fare is pretty standard with an occassional unique departure from basic diner food.
The staff is friendly, the food pops up quickly, and you're very likely to run into your neighbors.

Finding someone you like to cut your hair is like searching for the holy grail.
So if you need to find a place, try the Phoenix. They have a fantastic stable of hair talent and, now here's the beauty part, you can find someone who fits your budget.
Newer stylists have lower rates than stylists who've been in the game longer or who have worked for prestigious salons or had more professional training. Same goes for colorists.
I've yet to have a visit to this salon that i wasnt pleased with.

So this coffee shop is all popular in the Laurel District of Oakland. Basically, that's because it's the only thing close. The coffee is okay. The seating is moderately comfortable. But if you arent into the whole "world" scene, you wont feel like lingering.
Every time I've visited, I've gotten the counter help who is just TOO bored to be bothered with waiting on customers and certainly too cool to be friendly.
You know, you're free to be all hip and urban and think you're cool and all, but damn, give me my latte without attitude so i can get on with my day.

This coffee house on Alameda's downtown strip (Park) is a fantastic little spot. It's in a historical building with big windows and a cozy interior. They have a great selection of teas as well as coffee and nice pastries if you need a little nosh with your beverage. (I've been known to have the carrot cake for breakfast. Who can't use a little cream cheese frosting in the morning?)
As an added bonus, the staff are friendly and chatty and not the too-cool-to-wait-on-you counter folks and baristas that can be found at other independent coffee houses.
Oh, and there's internet access if you need that too.

The best things about Tropix are it's patio and its coconut shrimp. Oh and the Bul. Yummy. We go there frequently for those 3 things.
The main courses are hit or miss. Skirt steak is the only entree i've had that's consistently good. But oh my goodness the coconut shrimp. Just delicious.
This is a great place to go on a warm day to sit outside, have a pitcher of Bul (a refreshing concoction made from beer, sugar, and lime juice) and an appetizer.
You might want to go elsewhere for a full meal.
