It's a great place to go if you want sushi but someone you're with doesnt like it (the peasant!). Moki's Pacific grill offerings give the non-sushi-eating philistines delicious alternatives from which to choose.
The sushi rolls are inventive and fun. (Just order the ectasy roll and trust me.) The grilled dishes are clever and unique. Even the salads are wonderful! (Chopped pear salad...get it.)
The decor is a pacific/asian with big widows that are thrown open in nice weather. The staff is friendly and the sushi chefs do a beautiful job. The prices are reasonable and you could spend a happy evening going from sake to dessert in this little spot in Bernal Heights.

If, like me, you prefer to avoid giant chain stores as much a possible (well, except in the case of the joy that is Target) and you have pets, you may be on the lookout for small pet stores. I've found a nice one in the Bernal Beast. It's less a gift shop, which is what you frequently get from the boutique pet shop, and more a little supply station for those with urban pets. They carry all the basics from litter boxes to dog food with a nice selection of toys, treats, and accessories. The staff is friendly and Cortland location is convenient to anyone who lives in Bernal or the Outter Mission.

Chloe's is a fantastic little cafe in San Francisco's Noe Valley. It carries the tell-tale mark of a good breakfast place: it's packed on the weekends, particularly when there's nice weather as they have outdoor seating.
The wait is usually easy to manage as you can mill around with your friends drinking coffee from any number of coffee shops within walking distance or kill time wandering around the Noe Valley Pet Co which is just steps away.
Once you have your table, selecting from the menu will be a challenge only because everything is good. The french toast and waffles are awesome but i'm hard pressed to tear myself from the delicious salmon scramble.
Chloe's is a two thumbs up place!

The Libery Cafe is a lovely little spot in Bernal Heights. They serve a modern take on comfort food that both satisfies and delights. Their chicken pot pie is not to be missed nor is their famous Banana Cream Pie which has been exclaimed over in Gourmet Magazine. The service is always friendly and they have a nice wine selection.
In the back of the main restaurant, down a side alley is a the Liberty's Bakery. There, they serve all manner of coffees and delicious baked treats including croissants and fruit turnovers which go fast. There are a few outdoor tables and lovely little set of interior tables that remind me of an italian bistro.
It is a little expensive for comfort food, but worth the indulgence from time to time, particularly if you have the pie.

Sneakers has everything you want when you think "bar food." Hot wings? Yes! Chicken fingers? Yes! Hamburgers? Yes! But they have more than that too, including excellent wood-fired pizza, grilled cheese, and massive salads.
The staff is always friendly, the bar well stocked, the lemonade flowing.
Sneakers recently did a renovation in which they put a tv screen at every booth. That plus all the other tvs and big screens positioned around the place makes it a fantastic destination on game day (whatever sport you choose), particularly Monday Nite Football.

Skates On the Bay is a special occasion restaurant place for a lot of people i know and I've just never understood it. The view is spectacular that's true. The service is acceptable. The food is really only okay. And ok food does not justify the prices on the menu.
Also, the place is huge. I tend to prefer cozy environments otherwise i feel like I'm just one of the cattle. If you want great food and a great view, go to Trader Vic's in Emeryville. As and added bonus, your drinks come with parrots or tiki heads attached. Now THAT's how you celebrate a special occasion.

You have to have a go-to diner in your collection of restaurants and Ole's is ours. It is exactly what you'd expect. Vinyl booths. Hot coffee. FAST service. And a mad crazy rush at popular times. Which means breakfast.
You can get all the standards including incredible chicken apple sausage, hash, and biscuits. The service is always friendly and the prices reasonable.
On weekends there will always be a line for breakfast but there will also be plenty of people to chat with while you wait. And you can always grab a cup of coffee at any of 3 coffee shops up the street before you come get in line.

Actaully, i think it's technically Sicilian. But oh my goodness is it good. We stumbled across it one day when we were looking for a basic plate of spaghetti and meatballs. Well we got way more than "basic" from Lococo's and we go back weekly to make sure we get a lot of it.
The dining is family style. (I get plenty of opportunities to flirt with old men seated at our table.) The wines are robust and fruity. The pizza is some of my favorite in the E. Bay. And the staff are so very delightful.
There's generally a wait on the weekends and it's about a block up from Fenton's so walking to your dessert is easily done.

Oh Pizza Man, how we love you in our house. When we moved out of range of North Beach Pizza delivery, we were at a loss for where to get good pie. After months of trying the various places in our neighborhood and those recommended by our new neighbors, we stumbled across Pizza Man. Now, it's not as good North Beach, but then, what can be?
Still, it's waaay better than chain pizza. The crust is tasty, they have a wide variety of ingredients, the delivery guys are super friendly and the menu includes offerings other than pizza including hot sandwiches, calzones, desserts, salads and full on entrees. A great option in the East Bay. Oh and they're open until 3 a.m.!!

Park Chow is one of our go-tos. Their food is a unique twist on California-Asian wrapped in the guise of comfort food. Their location on the edge of Golden Gate Park means that parking is easy as there is always loads of room in the Park during the evenings.
The service is quick and the staff is friendly. The bar has great specialty coffees in addition to the standards.
Added bonuses: they have a fireplace downstairs that makes for cozy winter dining and they have a great rooftop patio that lets you get outside when the weather is nice.
