Good food

Friday, August 26, 2005
Creativity and color distinguish Indian Garden from the rest of the ethnic pack. Chef Ganga Rawat substitutes corn oil for traditional fat and creates gravy-based dishes with vegetables and spices rather than oils. Unusual dishes from the clay tandoor oven include the signature reshmi kebab--chicken marinated in yogurt and spices and cooked in a copper pan. Nearly half the extensive menu is devoted to meatless dishes. The special dinners, essentially combination plates, are a good way to explore the menu. The Streeterville location is one of three Indian Garden spots; one is located on Devon near Western and a third is in Schaumburg. This one though is the best and in the heart of the city.
