A coworker of mine insisted we stop by Garrett's while we were walking down Magnificent Mile... she said it's TO DIE FOR.
It was a Saturday, so the line was about a 35 minute wait, but man, when I got that bag of caramel popcorn - it made it all worth it.
They make all the popcorn fresh, and I swear they melt straight caramel on the stuff. It was so sticky sweet, it made my teeth stick together. They also have cheese, butter, and plain popcorn too.
They make gift tins that you can take home, and you can also order online for shipping.
One suggestion - if you are going, try to hit it up on a weeknight. They are open until 9:30, and they aren't too busy then. Weekends are an outrageous wait.

I've been here twice during my travels to Chicago, since it's the restaurant in the lobby of my hotel...
The first time I had baby back ribs, which were a little on the tough side and there wasn't a lot of meat. My boyfriend had the prime rib, which he said was decent but not the best ever.
The second time I played it safe and ordered a burger with bacon and cheese. It was alright, nothing to write home about. The french fries on the side were AWFUL.
The chocolate bundt cake was pretty good, although I ate it without the chocolate sauce on the top. The sauce tasted kind of burnt.
There's a Rock Bottom Brewery across the street which is probably where I'll be eating from now on.

When you come to the Windy City, there's two things you are required to eat - deep dish pizza and dogs.
Portillo's has a reputation for a great place to get authentic Chicago hot dogs.
These aren't your typical dogs - the regular dogs are all beef and come with mustard, onions, tomato slices, a pickle spear and something called sport peppers (I had mine on the side) and in a poppy seed bun.
The restaurant is done in an old fashioned, Al Capone style, and even has a vintage car mounted near the ceiling.
The dog was decent, the fries were fantastic... and the price was awesome. The dogs are only $2 each!

I'll admit, I was a little bit disappointed, because given the line to get into this place, I expected it to be great. However, after having Giordano's Pizza last weekend, I was let down.
Don't get me wrong, the pizza was fine, although maybe a bit overcooked (the crust was kind of burnt), it's just that it didn't compare well to Giordano's which is two blocks north and well worth the walk.
The service was okay. Our waiter stopped by a few times to see if we were alright, but it took 10 minutes for him to come back with our credit card receipt after we paid the bill.
The prices were fine, two people had sodas, a pizza, a salad plus tax and tip for like $27.

Okay, Saint Charles isn't the middle of nowhere exactly, but it's a small town. The Pheasant Run Inn is in a good location - right across the street from a Target, Wal-Mart and a bunch of places to eat. There's also a cafe, a restaurant, a theatre, quite a few pools and a couple of golf courses on the resort grounds.
The rooms are a little outdated, but they are clean. Internet access is pricey - $10 a day and it's not even 24 hours, just from check in time to check out time. There is complimentary water and coffee in the rooms, as well as cable TV.
I ordered a pay moviev and the sound quality was awful so I called the front desk and they happily reversed the charge.
Overall, a decent place to stay, although the Hilton Garden Inn across the street seems nicer if you just want a hotel and don't need all the other activities.

If you need limo service to and from the airport (either O'Hare or Midway), this is definitely the place to call. The city of Chicago has an ordinance that prohibits companies from soliciting passengers at the airport - so make sure to make your reservation before you arrive. Then, just call the limo service once you've got your bags and they will be there within a few minutes!
Although a word of warning - be careful what you put on the bar because if you scratch it, they will have a FIT at you. We actually hadn't scratched it, so I don't know what they would do, but the girl was really pissed!

I travel extensively for business and spend a significant amount of time in hotels. I love the Garden Inn chain - they have microwaves and fridges in the room, so you don't have to eat out every meal. Not only does it save me a lot of money, but it also helps me eat a little better while on the road.
The staff at this Garden Inn is extremely friendly and helpful. I'd never been to Chicago before but heard about it's famous Jazz Scene. The valet directed me to the most famous Jazz bar around - the Green Mill.
Housekeeping is awesome - they seem to know exactly when I leave my room and it's always clean when I return - even if I just stepped out for lunch.
The location is absolutely fantastic as well... about 2 blocks from Michigan (Magnificent Mile) and there's a Red Line train station right outside the door so getting around town is totally easy!

We had a special stuffed pizza - sausage, mushrooms, basically your "supreme". We ordered a small between 2 people and 2 slices were SO MUCH FOOD!
The pizza also is great cold and reheats well.
The mozzerella sticks were a little cold so the cheese was chunky, and the house salad was pretty plain but overall we were very happy for our meal with the price.

I've been here twice, once to play pool with my boyfriend and his friend, and once to go dancing. Now, if you just want to have a drink and play a game or two of pool, it's not too bad. It gets pretty busy at night so you may not get a table, and I think it's like $10 a hour for pool or something.
However, if you hit the place up on a Fri/Sat night to go to the nightclub downstairs - you may want to reconsider.
The thug element really seems to come out in full force when the music is Top 40/ Electronica. The speakers aren't that great and there is a dress code - you have to pay a cover if you come in wearing sneakers. Come on now. I DANCE, I'm not going to wear heels. That's just crazy. Oh, but flip flops are okay?
The drinks are alright, although nothing to write home about.

I visited Toronto last year and fell in love with Canadian culture. When I saw a newspaper article about this cafe, I had to go. A friend of mine who is from Canada says this place is the real deal.
The service is very friendly and personable, the food is fantastic... and the nanaimo bars are absolutely TO DIE FOR.
If you're not so adventurous, you can order a hot dog or hamburgers, but I recommend trying the Swiss Chalet Rotisserie Chicken and the Canadian Fries.
