My roommate recommended Urbane to me when I desperately wanted a manicure and pedicure. The salon is in downtown Monrovia and was just a few blocks from my apartment.
A friend and I were able to make a same day appointment (although they do take walk-ins). The place is very clean and very nice.
The manicure and pedicure combo was $36, and boy was it worth it. It's probably the best mani/pedi I have ever had. They use great smelling products, everyone is very professional.
They also offer skin care treatments and waxing.

I picked Evolutions out of the phone book because it was in walking distance to my office. I had an upcoming wedding and my hair had been destroyed by years of dyeing.
When I called the salon I explained that I had short hair and they immediately suggested a specific stylist, Alex, because she specialized in short hair.
I could not have been happier with the haircut and coloring I received at Evolutions. Alex took into consideration my particular hair when suggesting a cut, and the color was amazing. In fact, many of the other sylists came by and commented on the beautiful highlights.
I think I paid a little over $100 for both the cut and color, but it was well worth it.

I visited Dr. Kelly Hamilton after a referral from another doctor. Overall, I was fairly disappointed.
Positive: I was able to get an appointment at a convenient time for me during the day, and the office was only a few blocks from my work.
Negatives: I waited a fair amount of time in the waiting room before being seen, and Dr. Hamilton repeatedly interrupted our session by answering the phone. This was an office consultation rather than a physical exam.
I also felt that Dr. Hamilton wasn't really listening to what I was saying, and he ignored the advice of my other doctor. I left his office disappointed and ended up seeking the services of another physician.
I am sure Dr. Hamilton is a great doctor, but I was not happy with the outcome of my visit.

I became aquainted with Nicole from Teacher's Pet through another service and was impressed with her patience and knowledge related to dogs.
When I got my own puppy, she taught me a lot about training, as well as gave me suggestions for what to feed my dog and other tips for having a great pet relationship.
She is very professional and caring. Her prices are reasonable and I wouldn't trust my dog to anyone else. She goes above and beyond to make sure your dog is well trained and happy.

I was referred to Laura at Skin Care & Body Work Day Spa by my roommate after I inquired about someone to wax my eyebrows.
I decided to also take the plunge and get a bikini wax for the first time.
Laura was extremely professional, and put me right at ease. Getting a bikini wax isn't the most comfortable thing in the world, but she helped me relax and explained everything she was doing.
The eyebrow wax is probably the best I've ever had done.
Laura also does facials, and offers a great skin care line. She works with a massage therapist and I believe another professional.
The price was also incredibly reasonable.

We had probably 6 or 7 drinks total, plus one appetizer, and the total bill was close to $100.
The place was upscale, but I think I would have been more at home in a smaller, local bar.
Great place if you want to be "seen", I guess.

This place is a total dive. It's probably 15' x 15' and dingy. They have only about 3 tables, but there are bar stools along the walls.
The people there are obviously regulars, and were watching the Cubs game when we arrived.
The drinks were strong and everyone was very friendly to us. The bartender and the owner comp'd us a number of drinks, and we had a lively conversation and game of darts.
We ended up meeting another couple who showed us around the city.
This place was definitely not the most classy, but it was one of the best experiences we had while in Chicago.

I wandered in the Whitehall Jewelers while visiting the mall right off Michigan in downtown Chicago. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but I was met at the door by a saleswoman who was very attentive and nice.
When I mentioned that I was just browsing, she just let me wander.
I ended up finding a GORGEOUS pearl necklace that was on sale. The woman was gracious in showing me the piece, and when I demurred on purchasing, she mentioned that the necklace was on sale until the following week, if I changed my mind.
I ended up buying the necklace later that day, and they gave me a special pearl box and explained how best to care for the pearls.
Overall it was a great experience, and the necklace is amazingly beautiful. I have received many compliments every time I have worn it.

Thursday nights are $20 wristband night at Cadillac Ranch. You pay $20 at the door (yes, they take credit cards for this fee) and get a wristband and a plastic cup. It's all you can drink Bud, Bud Light and well drinks until 1am.
There were very few bartenders early in the night, but they opened up 3 other bars before 11pm. The drinks were decent, and I definitely got my $20 worth.
The music is "retro" until about 11pm, when they start playing Top 40.
There are a few training centers nearby that bus their participants in on Thursday nights, so you're practically guaranteed to meet a lot of 20-somethings.

My boyfriend is an avid baseball fan, so he HAD to visit Harry Caray's while we were in Chicago. We decided to stop for lunch as we assumed the crowd would be smaller.
We were immediately seated, and the staff was incredibly friendly. We both had a burger with fries. The burgers were fantastic, and the steak fries were delicious.
The price was reasonable, $10 for the burger, and the service was fairly quick. I think we managed to complete our meal in a little under an hour.
The memorabilia is interesting, and my boyfriend spent a good 30 minutes wandering around looking at the stuff on the walls.
