My daughter and I went to this restaurant today. We had gone shopping and then she said she'd like to "eat out" and I said why not go somewhere that we haven't been before. Mimi's was our choice. We were greeted immediately by a smiling young lady. She took our name and said it would only be 5 minutes or less.
It was about 3 minutes and we'd asked for a table instead of a booth. We were seated and immediately, our server, Becca, a very sweet young lady was there to take our drink order and told us the specials for the day. When she brought those to us we were ready to order. My daughter ordered Fish & Chips and I have been wanting a Chicken Pot Pie for like forever.
She took our order and then she brought us a basket of bread. There was the usual rather crusty white roll and 2 slices of this "to die for" carrot-raisin bread. I asked if they sold them by the loaf and she said they sure do. They are the mini loaves, a little pricey but worth it to me. She brought back 2 more slices of the carrot-rasin bread when she brought our food out. It was there within 15 minutes or less.
My daughter's Fish and the French Fries were really good .. but too much for one person to eat. We both prefer a little more tangy or vinegary taste to our cole slaw but it was good. The fries were great but since we've not been eating grease nor carbs .. they actually were too much for us.
The Chicken Pot Pie was quite good as well. It was served in a nice heavy crock type bowl with a GREAT flakey crust. It was full of chicken chunks, peas, carrots, celery and the creamy sauce/gravy. It was also way too much for one person.
We ended up taking the Fish & Chips home with us but not the Chicken Pot Pie. The carrot bread had filled me up and I just could not eat any more.
The atmosphere was very nice, it was clean and we will go there again. If you have never been there, you ought to give it a try.
The menu had a ton of choices .. a little higher priced than some restaurants, but not outrageous.

The main place I go to purchase most of my canned items or boxed items .. such as Folgers Coffee, I go to Walmart. I usually go during the week to avoid crowds and long lines. I can walk into almost any Wal-mart store from Florida to Colorado and pretty much know WHERE what ever item it is that I'm buying .. that it will be in each of their stores. We do have a nice Wal-mart that I go to most of the time -- which is laid out a little different than the other two in the area. I just recently shopped in another one and when I walked into it .. I felt like I was walking into the one in Okeechobee, FL. Amazing how that felt. I was expecting to see the same ole familiar faces of the employees in FL. I like Wal-mart for canned items, paper products and their pharmacy.

Whenever I have any kind of celebration -- I always check out Sam's Club for cakes and baked goods. Not only are their baked goods really tasty, you can get them in large amounts that one would need for a large crowd. I also purchase my paper goods there in large quantities. If I do not wait and try to shop on weekend, go during the week instead, I find that I can get everything done much quicker, the check out lines are short -- just not that many shoppers during the week.

Yesterday we noticed little Piglet, our daughter's Chiahuahua, had some tearing out of her one eye and then we looked it up on the INTERNET and we came to the conclusion that it was a "cherry eye." A call to this veterinary hospital that had been referred by one of her instructors at college .. pretty much confirmed that is what it was as well. She made an appointment to see her this morning and that diagnoses was exactly what it is. We took her to Polo Springs Veterinary Hospital. When we walked into this place, it was like walking into the lobby of a 5 star hotel. We were greeted by a very nice receptionist that took all the information immediately. As you walked in, there was a gas log fire place burning .. high ceilings, tiled floors that sparkled. There were oak cabinets and hutches and a counters that contained a variety of pet products including food. On an "island" was a coffee pot set up for customers with STARBUCKS COFFEE and a tray of cookies. Next to that was a candy container with candy kisses.
When we went back to see the doctor .. the exam room was very clean. Throughout the entire center, you could NOT smell anything. It was SUPER, SUPER clean. Besides being a "doctor" and a "hospital" they also board animals. The larger dogs were kept in a separate area and had a big heavy door that they kept closed to keep down the barking noise but it had a window so one could see into that area. The operating room looked cleaner than most hospitals.
They provide not only emergency treatments, but suregery, dental care, nutritional counseling, boarding and daycare and grooming services.
The two technicans and the doctor were all very friendly and very thorough in letting us know our options and their recommendations.
For now we went with treating it with an antibiotic/steriod ointment that she will have to put on the eye for 21 days. At least, this is the first step and we hope it will be all it takes. Being a small breed dog, it's not uncommon for this to happen.
I highly recommend Polo Springs Veterinary Hospital.

My husband's cell phones battery had gotten to where it wouldn't hold a charge. Also, he hadn't gotten his number changed from a Florida number to a Colorado number yet either. I called to see if he could get a new phone either free or discounted. His 2 year contract was up this January so we waited until this week to check into it. The Cingular Retail Store in the Citadel Mall was a great experience. My husband didn't need any "accessories" so they allowed him to get the $79.00 phone for $29.00 and no accessories, i.e. a car charger, holder etc. as he already had those. Also, they make you pay up front and then you send in the paper work for the discount. My husband said he didn't like the idea of paying taxes on the full $79.00 as Colorado Springs taxes are 7.4%. Then the manager came over and asked if he were an AARP member and I said we are an AAA member. He said that would work too. So, on top of the $50.00 rebate he applied a 7% discount for each MONTH for 2 years. Now, that was a great deal. If anyone is planning on purchasing a cell phone, be sure to ask about the AAA or AARP discount(s).

Yesterday was sort of our first day out since the last snow storm. We decided we'd spend the day "out" because we may be getting yet another snow event on the weekend. We ended up at the Citadel Mall and one of the neatest shops there is CLORIA JEAN'S COFFEES. We got a Cafe Mocha which had the best tasting coffee, a whole lot better than Starbucks or any others we've had. Their whipped cream was piled on very thick on top and it had a little different texture or something than Starbucks too. Not too sweet but a little more like home made whipped cream. It was delicious. Besides coffee drinks they also sell teas. They had some really cute cups and tea pots too. Everyone working there was not only helpful, but very, very friendly. Pointed out a lot of different things that we might like to try in the future. Very nice shop. It's located on the top floor of the Mall near the eatery.

Actually, I really do like about 3 grocery stores but Safeway is my favorite. I prefer their meats as they seem to have a better taste to them. I also like the friendly staff at the ones that I have gone to here in Colorado. Another thing that I like is that they do have a membership card that you get 3 to 10 cents off on gasoline after purchasing a certain amount of groceries and it has really been a godsend when the cost of gasoline has been so expensive. Their produce always is so nice and fresh. They have a great deli too. And, for an added convenience, they do have a pharmacy as well.

Last evening I really had a taste for Chinese Food .. and since we made a couple of "bad" choices within the last week -- Italian and Mexican -- I was a bit afraid to suggest it to my husband. Finally I figured out we could have it "delivered." I found a menu in the drawer from Dragon Gate and it said FREE DELIVERY. So I called and ordered what they call on the menu the FAMILY DINNER. You have 3 different choices .. one at $12.95 per person, one at $10.95 per person and one at $9.95 per person. They each come with a little bit different choices but the two choices we like were on the $9.95 one. You have to order for a minimum of 2 which was perfect for us.
For myself, I chose the Sweet and Sour Pork. My husband wanted the Beef with Green Pepper. This is what it came with:
An appetizer: which included an egg roll, cheese wontons, a chicken wing and beef on a stick.
Soup: Your choice of: Wonton, Egg Drop or Hot & Sour
Rice: Steamed or Fried Rice
This all came with the entree. There was enough left over for 3 of us to eat today for lunch. Their food was very good, with large portions. We will definately use them again.
They do have the HOT & SPICY foods too. On the menu they are marked so you know what you would want to order and not be surprised. They have seafood, beef, pork, chicken, duck, vegetables, and more. Their lunch specials range from $5.55 to $5.95. And they gave us each a fortune cookie and of course the duck sauce and hot mustard packets.

Today is the first day that we've been out of the neighborhood since the second blizzard within a week. We were driving around looking at houses for sale that we had seen on a website. We were starting to get hungry so we decided to pick someplace we hadn't been in awhile .. we both were hungry for Mexican Food. We stopped at one called "On The Border." Now, I know we've eaten at them before, they are a chain but I remember them being pretty good. We make our way into the place, get seated and given a menu. I LOVE Enchiladas and since it had been like "forever" .. that was my choice. The Combo .. was your choice, 2, 3 or 4 .. you select from a Taco, Enchilada, Empanda and Burito. You could get chicken or beef. I chose 2 enchiladas, hubby got the 4 combo .. and got one of each.
The service was ok, not the best. They were quite busy, so we over looked a lot. We received our drinks almost immediately .. but I asked for a straw 3 times. My husband ordered an amber beer and was brought a "light" beer. Our waiter finally changed that for him. I had also asked for some extra napkins as the plates that were left for us for the chips and salsa were WET so I used my napkin to dry the plates.
They brought the chips and sauce .. the sauce was a little on the "hot, spicey" side but bland, if you get the picture. The chips were extremely salty .. you could actually shake or scrape it off, it was that thick.
It seemed like forever before we finally got our food. I was really looking forward to an Enchilada and it came with refried or black beans, I chose refried and it also came with Mexican Fried rice. The tortilla's they used were not cooked very much, they were extremely rubbery, and I was always used to refried beans being at least a mashed bean .. these were like a pot of boiled pinto beans, very runny and kind of tasteless. I was also used to an Enchilada having a lot of cheese in with the meat of your choice and if not in with it, then a lot on the outside .. this had a few sprinkles on top. The Mexican Rice was just rice with a little salsa and corn mixed in. At least you didn't have to guess what was in it. By the time our food was delivered to us, it was on the cold to warm side. My husband's flour tortilla was like it had not even been warmed up, uncooked. The tortilla's were rubbery and the refried beans and rice were the same as mine.
My husband finally had to get up himself and go to the bar to get a couple of napkins and when our food was delivered I got my straw.
I am pretty sure we had eaten there before when the food was GOOD or I would not have chosen to eat there again. It was either that they have changed the ingredients in their food items or they have a terrible chef/cook.
I would only give On The Border 2 Stars, at best. We joked that they didn't say "which Border" .. maybe "on the border of mediocore to bad?"

I was very impressed with this ER, the doctor and nurses. We had the unfortuate Christmas Day experience of spending about 5 hours in the ER. My husband had a little episode of some numbness on his left side: face, lips and left arm. We convinced him to at least call his doctor and the doctor on call told him to go to the ER and have it checked out. When we arrived there, we went to the valet parking .. FREE. Then we went inside to register, the registering person was very polite and friendly, then we had to go through Security, he was also friendly. We only waited about 5 minutes and he was taken to another station where they entered all of his information into the computer etc. His medications and medical history. Then the ER doctor saw him and after talking with him, decided to go ahead and have a lot of tests done, blood work, a couple of x-rays, chest and head. All of the technicians were extremely professional. Then he was told he could go home but had to make an appointment to have two more things done but since it was Christmas Day they couldn't do them .. a cardiac echo complete and a carotid ultrasound. I called the next day and they scheduled him the following day. He had two different technicians that day and they were both friendly and very helpful. When we left the hospital and to get our car, we just handed them our ticket and they brought the car to us .. AND THEY SAID NO TIPPING. Very friendly guys doing that too. I hope I never need have to use an ER or even the hospital, but now I know this one is a good one. [Oh, we still don't know what happened .. it could have been a few pinched nerves, perhaps from shoveling snow, it could be Bells Palsy but no drooping or any numbness now or then, or a TIA, pre-cursor to a major stroke. He's been fine since that day .. has an appointment to see his doctor on Jan. 4th.]
