I've been using the Animal Hospital of Newport Hills for ten years or more and have always been happy with the results. They've neutered 4 male cats for me, and spayed one female, given shots, diagnosed ailments -- a bad cough etc. They take walk in clients that show up at their door. The wait is usual under 1/2 hour every time I've been there. They take your pet to a private room while they examine them, and you can go along. They provide medicine, sell food, collars and the like also. The doctors are always helpful abd explain thoroughly.

I used Dr. Baze while undergoing a lot of stress and after a car accident to get my spine to release the caught vertebrae. He had roller tables for a gentle massage prior to treatment. They take X-Rays prior to treatment and Dr. Baze is very good at explaining what's happening with your spine, and provides good exercises to help you keep your back and related muscles in shape. He's very friendly, bills your insurance, the staff is helpful, and his office is located in a convenient place.

This museum is small, but a good selection of Asian artwork including a huge display on Buddhist art. For the next couple weeks they have paintings but I guess some of the Seattle Art collection is moving in while they expand downtown. They have clean bathrooms, helpful staff, a small gift shop and the grounds are beautiful. Space to walk around the reservoir, a good view of the bay and Space Needle and a cool old tower. Lots of bulbs in bloom and open grassy spaces.

The QFC in Fairwood is often a choice to buy meat because of their great seafood and meat market. One of our favorite tricks is to ask them to saw a frozen turkey breast in half, then cooking one half and saving the other half for the following week. Cooked with a tablespoon of oil, a splash of oj, and rosemary and thyme from our garden, it is the best return to Thanksgiving or sandwich meat ever. Also, their seafood department is a real winner with good fresh and frozen seafood -- we once got great oysters, good petrale sole and reliably good prawns and cooked sockeye salmon. Their bakery is to kill for if you are allowed those kind of things. Nice friendly and efficient staff. Good hours, adequate parking.

Thriftway in Renton has won our appreciation for their weekend deli coupons. They've made their niche in the midst of a bunch of offices as an alternative for fast food by providing deli sandwiches with really good meat, sushi, salads, soups and a lot of good healthy food at reasonable prices and a place to sit down, too. I always liked their huge selection of flowers purchaseable by the stem or in a clump with a lot of colors and variety. We also like their meat department for sizing their steaks small enough for just two people with an older or weight-watching attitude. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

Silver Platters is the best of several options in the area to browse for CDs and buy music and movie DVD's and videocassettes. The staff is helpful and even looked up a movie on the web for us when they didn't have it in their catalog. We easily spent an hour or so browsing through their offerings. They have many headphones on which you can samples music offerings. Access is easiest heading south on Southcenter Boulevard.

Nana's Soup House just north of U-Village is a cozy corner to stop at and eat something healthy. They have sandwiches, salads, and cookies to go along with their homemade soups. They usually have four "meat eater" soups -- my favorite is the hamburger cabbage because it has a peppery zing to the broth that goes nicely with the main ingredients. There are more vegetarian offerings but since I'm a minimal dairy eater I haven't sampled any yet. I also like their turkey sandwich that they make plain and boring for my taste on grilled focaccia bread. Very yummy.

Hollywood Video rentals is a great place to rent or buy your DVD's, cassettes tapes, or game's. The staff is helpful, they keep a record of your activity so find you easily for check out. They often let you keep your rentals for 3-4 days without extra charge which is a real relief for a busy person. They have a drive through return box which is convenient. I often find the latest releases available here as well as many old favorites including a good selection of science fiction, suspense, comedy.

The onsite staff at McLendon's always has an answer about how to, what to get, what's the best product, you name it. Wonderful. They have nuts and bolts, old plumbing kits for toilets, lighting, the best treats for animals and birds, good healthy garden plants, paint. It would be easier to say what they don't have. They help load bulk items like manure or lumber. Lots of parking and even more stock now that they moved into the former K-Mart.

Ace is the quick stop for things like mower filters and blades, paint spatter cloths, and garden tools. Their plant selection is pretty healthy when they first get them in stock. The have specials on bulbs and on Christmas decor -- especially lighted reindeer and the like. The staff is motivated to get your questions answered and to get you checked out. The have a discount card that generates specials mailed to your home, many have been helpful like the ones on furnace filters. They don't have near the supply of goods that McLendon's does, but they fit an essential need.
