Foodland Supermarket in Kapaa, Kauai, HI became one of our favorite stops while on vacation. They have a supersaver program that is easy to sign up. Some of our favorite purchases included sushi -- fresh, tasty, with ahi and inagi (my husband's favorites) as well as the usual deli items -- homemade sandwiches which were huge, fried chicken, fresh fruit. Additionally, they had a Wall Street Market on hand and free dining guides that were useful in finding a restaurant. Service was quick and friendly.

Michael's The Arts and Craft Store has everything you need to decorate or unleash your creative skills. I've bought boxes for a youngster to decorate and give as a present. I've found silk flowers galore. They have ribbons at a good price that I use for book marks. They have beads, paints, flower arranging supplies, decorating supplies, things for scrapbooking, for creating your own invitations, stamping. You name it. They have it, usually at a good price and with seasonal specials.

Renton Key Shop delivers to your door, prompt and quality service. We needed to change our locks on several new doors we added to our house. Renton Key shop arranged an appointment, even tried to come a day earlier if it would help us but we weren't going to be home so passed up their offer. They arrived on time, installed several locks, cleaned up their mess and we were very happy with the results. They're also known as Watson Locks.

My neighbor told me she'd tried the sushi at Stir, so of course we had to go. Turns out my neighbor was correct. My husband ordered a dish with ahi, salmon, ebi, eel, octopus and spicy salmon for $8.95 and loved it along with an order of really tasty pot stickers. I had their orange crispy beef spiced to 3 stars and found it really tasty but not 3 stars. The couple we went with wiped out their orders of kung pao and garlic chicken. I had a really fresh side salad. Bob was able to get bottled beer so he was happy, the rest of us drank hot tea, of course. Great meal. It's definitely a place to go back to.

My writing group meets for critique at Factoria's Seattle's Best Coffee and like the dreamer I am, I left my purse hanging over the back of the chair. And, because we recently dropped our land line for a cell phone, I didn't have any up to date phone in my literature except my Judy's Book business card. So the staff tracked me down by contacting Judy's Books and I got an e-mail saying your purse is in Factoria. Is this too cool? SBC has great ice tea, good desserts, outside tables and a couple cushy chairs so you can spend some time relaxing and discussing business. The staff even gave us advanced warning that they were going to close so that we could finish up our critique and go. Am I a happy customer? You bet.

Emerald Downs -- is a fun outing without too much cost ... assuming you manage your gambling appropriately. One time during a visit, I let each of my nieces and nephews place a bet and as long as they won, they got to bet again. It was a lot more fun then betting myself. When we go, we make it an active outing by watching the horses arrive and get saddled and the jockeys mount, placing our bets, then going to the start (if possible) and watching the end and photos of the winner. Good beer is available which is always a positive and I saw many yummy mega-margarita's being downed. My guilty sin of the day was ordering small soft icecream and the guys behind the counter really piled it on -- chocolate, too! Some good garlic fries and corn dogs available, too. The horses though are the real treat -- such elegant beasts and even the cowgirl's ponies are fun to see.

Alki Cafe turned out to be a real delight today. We ate lunch with a terrific view of Seattle's bay. The items on the menu were in the $10 range including sandwiches, salads, seafood and breakfasts. I had an Asian chicken salad that I couldn't finish. Bob had a grilled chicken sandwich with a huge mass of fries. Even with me sneaking a few fries, a third of the fries got left, even though they were very tasty and hot. The service was fantastic -- our meal arrived in 10 minutes and our drinks quicker. We picked the Alki Cafe because so many people were eating there, a full restaurant seldom lies.

Baskin and Robbins in Fairwood always serves up a good cone quickly. The help are local high school students and very friendly. I also like their ice cream pies for special occasions. And sometimes an ice cream sundae where you choose what syrup and extras on it tastes so good and cancels your need for chocolate. My favorite flavors are the winter white chocolate (usually only in the winter or pint) and rocky road.

We decided to dine out before going to the Asian Art Museum, so friends recommended Cafe Septieme up on Broadway on Capitol Hill. We were happy. We found parking nearby for $5 (which seemed awfully pricy) and were an easy walk to the Cafe Septiem. The decor was fun, walls painted jaunty red with cool poster-like art showing a variety of characters -- two large headed children, a sulky viscountess, etc. Seating was comfortable with quite a few outdoors. We were happy to find Stella Artois on tap. My Septiem salad was tasty and they even made it without cheese. Our friends ate burgers and replaced the fries with salad. My husband had a good German style schnitzel with garlic mashed potatoes and everyone's favorite purple cabbage. Meal selection prices were reasonable -- under $20 with burgers and salads under $10.

Hurrah! Renton finally has fine dining with lunch, dinner, steak and seafood! The old bar at this location has been transformed inside into a classy, light jazz background music sort of place. Owned by the owner of Armondo's (great Italian food for decades in case you haven't tried it), this restaurant delivered us a nice lunch. We tried the fish and chips and the crab sandwich. Chips are in the form of lightly seasoned waffle fries. The halibut was fine. The crab sandwich was a delight. The crab was mixed with artichoke hearts, spinach, cheese, onion and served on a light sourdough bread. Service was excellent. 6 brands of beer are offered on tap, many more offerings of wine including 3 dessert wines. Lunch prices range $10-15, dinner $10-50. Lobster is $48. The Sunday all-you-can-eat crab fest is $26. There's a special early dinner menu, and fresh fish menu. Expect to find oysters, scallops, crab, prawns, steak, duck, pork chops, lamb. Several dessert offerings including brownies, cheesecake and fruit cobbler. You can call ahead to reserve the chef's table and watch them work (can be noisy). The bar is pleasant.
