Our relationship with Almvig's goes back about two years, to when we had just moved into our house. We went in and bought a refrigerator and range. One of the best things about this purchase was that they were able to order a fridge that had been discontinued, but that met our specific needs. Not only were they able to get us a hard-to-find product, but their prices were also better than other places we had looked for the same appliances. We were so happy with that experience that we let ourselves be talked into going back a couple of weeks later for a very nice range hood, and we are so glad we got that as well.
More recently, we decided to move ahead with a full kitchen remodel, and of course we went back to Almvig’s for the remaining appliances we needed: dishwasher and microwave. Once again, the prices they gave us were the best we could find, and their service was as friendly as always. Nearing the end of this remodel, with our baby girl due very soon, we ran into a problem with the dishwasher – it had been damaged somehow, and was not functioning. Our contractor denied responsibility and did not want to help; we called the local authorized Kitchenaid service centers, and they could not get to us for over a week. Don at Almvig’s was the only person who seemed to want to help: he was able to send an installer to look at the dishwasher that day. And although it did could not be determined what happened to the dishwasher, he offered to replace it and have the new one installed only two days later, at no further cost to us. It is such a relief to have the dishwasher in place and working now!
Since we bought our first appliances at Almvig’s, we have always recommended them to our friends and family. Now we strongly insist that they go there for everything they need. We have already told our story to several friends, and will continue to do so. We will always go back for any appliances we may need in the future.

No, I haven't been to every dim sum restaurant in Seattle, but how could anything be better? Start with the valet parking - not the most confidence - inspiring valet, but my car has never been damaged, so it's cool. You probably take more of a risk parking on the street.
Next, I have never gone to Sun Ya and waited for a table - always immediate seating.
As soon as you sit down, every cart is headed your way. In other places I've been to, the warm cart might come to you early on, but you're done with your sticky rice and fried seafood salad before the steam cart even makes it around. At Sun Ya, you often get all the food you want before you even get water and tea!
The food at Sun Ya is also superior to anywhere else I have been, including a couple of highly-rated places in San Fransisco. My favorite is the shiu mai - unlike other places where the filling is ground up into mush, at Sun Ya, you can see and feel the whole or large chunks of shrimp! I also recommend the shrimp on green pepper, sticky rice in a bowl, and calimari.
The price is right as well. My wife and I can go into Sun Ya on a Saturday around noon, after having not eaten breakfast, and load up with everything we want. We still get out for under $20 with tax, tip and a buck or two for the valet.
If anybody has been to Sun Ya for dim sum and knows of a better place, please send me a message and I will try it out!

Zoka may just be too popular for its own good! Actually, when you go to get coffee on a Saturday morning, and you see this place with a line sometimes stretching out the front doors, why not give it a try? As long as you're not in a hurry, Zoka is the perfect place to grab breakfast. Bring your dog, tie it up outside by the water dish, and get inside to make your selection from a huge assortment of pastries, pies, and other treats. The interior is very cool, with small tables pushed together in rows, or lined up in front of the benches against the wall so you have an electrical outlet for your laptop.
As for coffee, you can't do much better than this. Zoka prides itself on its coffee, and they hired a world champion barista to be the best. I like a mocha on a Saturday - grab a flaky turnover or slice of cobbler, sit outside with the dog, and read the Stranger.
I have not been to Zoka during the week, but I imagine the line would not be nearly as long. Highly recommended!

This is the kind of place you go to every morning on your way to the bus stop, and everybody knows everybody. The owner, Karen, is super-friendly, as are the rest of the staff, and you will always get personal service and have great conversations with the other regulars as you pause briefly for your coffee to be ready.

The Elysian Tangletown pub is the ultimate neighborhood pub! In very few places have I had such great beer, food, and service all at once, in a place with such great ambience and location. The Elysian like any bar, is best when you live nearby and you can just walk over for a beer, dinner, or whenever. For food I would recommend the brisket sandwich, burgers, and the reuben, and I haven't had weekend brunch there yet, but the menu looks wonderful and I'm very much looking forward to doing that.
As for beer, my personal favorite at the moment is the Pilsener, but on a hot day, the Jasmine IPA is super refreshing, but still a real beer. The ESB is the old standby, and I'm actually looking forward to the fall and winter so I can try the more hardy brews!

I have taken my 1976 Type II (bus) to Buttera anytime I have needed service of any kind, from pre-purchase inspection to oil changes to having a hole drilled and tapped for a temp sensor, and they can always fit me in within a decent amount of time.
I have heard that Buttera is the oldest VW garage in the Seattle area. Dick and Gary definitely know their stuff, and I would not hesitate to recommend Buttera to anybody.

We just moved to the Green Lake area, so Krittika is just a few blocks' walk from our house. My wife went there for takeout lunch on her day off, and totally raved about it. When I got home, she gave me some left-over chicken pad thai, and I was shocked to see that it had a red sauce on it! Neither my wife nor I had ever liked a red-sauce pad thai; only the brownish peanut sauce. Well I have to say that this is some of the best I've had!
Since then, we have brought home dinner twice from Krittika, and have not been disappointed. My top recommendations are the pad thai (of course), chicken with black bean sauce, spicy fried rice, and beef pad see iew (don't know if I spelled that correctly). There's also an appetizer that's prawns and cream cheese wrapped in rice paper and deep fried - I'm sure it's not authentic Thai, but it is definitely yummy! I guess I would not recommend the cashew chicken - it was good, but not great. Next I want to try the bbq chicken and curries.
We haven't eaten in the restaurant yet, so I can't say anything about the table service, but for take-out, it's a very good quality Thai restaurant.
