The first time I had a "wrap" for lunch was at the Box Lunch on the Cape. I had their take on the ubiquitous lobster roll and found it quite good - lots of meat, fresh wrap and not too much of the green stuff. My wife has their turkey sandwich - complete with cranberry sauce.
This is the place to grab a lunch to go and then sit by the water or head out to have a whale watch and snack on the way out.
Good food at a fair price.

This is a rare find on the Cape. Far from the main roads, it's a restaurant worth seeking out. For breakfast, they do all the right stuff right - eggs, bacon, pancakes, French toast and a daily special muffin. Good coffee and decent service complete the picture.
Lunch and dinner - get the seafood - I lean toward the shrimp and lobster dishes. My wife likes their fresh fish daily specials.
We eat here several times during a weekly visit - especially for breakfast.
You will love this place - it's really special.

In the old days, we used to go to B&Bs when we vacationed in New England. The rooms were always beautiful and the breakfasts a daily adventure. And then, one day, we did the math. We never spent much time in the room - always up at 6 AM and on the road by 7. This made the B&B premium less attractive. Enter East Harbor Motel & Cottages. Here is a place on the beach with safe, off street parking, clean rooms and private baths and is on the bus route that takes you into Provincetown - perfect.
We have been coming here for over a decade and have never been disappointed. The owner is a wonderful lady and she is a good sport too. (I took her for a thrill ride in my loaner BMW Z4 and she laughed through the tightest curves.)
This is a fun place for people who don't need luxury rooms - just a clean and comfortable place to sleep and wash up.

I love a good burger and I bet you do too. From White Castles to McDonald's to Armadillo in Kingston, NY - I love 'em all. But what makes this tiny burger maker so special is the building they are in (I hear it's a left over from the 1939 World's Fair) and, naturally, the taste of the burgers. (Note: the name is correctly spelled White Manna - 2 n's).
Yup, this ancient diner-like building on the east side of River Road is over 60 years old - one of only two still in existence (the other's in Jersey city on Rt. 1 - their name is White Mana - 1 n). That only adds to the charm. The real reason to eat here is the beef. They fry up the racket-ball-sized blobs of ground beef right under your nose (get it with onions). That's how you know they are freshly made.
Their fries are good and the prices more than fair. But be warned, you will need more that a couple to fill you up - I usually get 3 or 4 with fries and a cola.
The smell inside is intoxicating - grease, onions and frying beef. The smell is so strong, I had to wash my down-filled coat the last time I sat at the counter, right over the grill.
This is a great NJ experience. I'm going there for lunch today!

Deep Fried Lobster - you heard me, Deep Fried Lobster ! Holy cow - how did they think of this? Lobster is high in cholesterol and you always serve it with butter but frying takes it to new heights of death defying taste.
I allow myself one order per vacation but it is so tempting, I could see how a person with good taste, a death wish and a credit card could end it all in their dining room.
Unless you are already on life support, get an order of fried lobster and stare down the grim reaper.
Sooooo good!

I love puzzles. Crosswords and my favorite, but eye-hand-brain teasers get me going too. That's why I shop here on every Cape visit.
This store has every kind of puzzle you can imagine from jig saw challenges to those heavy metal "remove the ring without breaking anything" types often found in bars.
I bring them to work to stir up the gray cells of my co-workers.
Fun store - pay a visit when you are in town,

For me, a restful vacation doesn't exist. Usually, my wife and I run at top speed, cramming in experiences like we were working off a project plan. But at the Cape, the sun, air and sand conspire to make us slow down and as they work their magic, I head here to buy vacation reads.
Their selection (as you might imagine) is heavily weighted to mysteries - perfect escapist fare.
For the Internet junkie, let me remind you that the staff is the reason to shop at a small, selective brick and mortar store. The passion for the product of a good local merchant forces them to fill their stores with great "stuff" - this store is a perfect example of that fact.
I just tell them what I have read and enjoyed and they recommend riffs off the titles. It is a good way for me to expand my horizons.
Great staff, Great selection - patronize them to help protect us from faceless discounters.

Once Upon a Tart is a bakery we discovered on one of our jaunts. It's hard to describe the kind of baked goods they sell here except to say that they sell, um, tarts. Really good tarts. Make that crazy good tarts.
Fruit, chocolate, sugar and flaky crusts taken to new levels of excellence.
You have to go and experience a unique taste fantasy. I wish I had one of their peach creations right now.

If you are a fan of Thai food, you probably already know how good Pearl of Siam is. If you are new to Thai food, give this place a shot.
What is Thai cooking? Mix French and Chinese flavors and ingredients with spice and you are getting the picture. My favorite dishes are their Pearl Bar-B-Q - chicken in a sweet, flavorful sauce and their warm shrimp salad called Yam Goom. Order it mild or medium because the spice can be too tough for rookies.
Their appetizers are great too - the sauces are a mix of sweet and tang.
I love their Thai ice tea and get at least two glasses.
Why only 4 Stars - the price can be pretty steep - especially when you consider that there is no bar bill.
Get adventurous, try Thai food, a unique alternative to your usual Chinese food.

Back when I was growing up in the 1960's, if you wanted your Sunday papers (yes, papers, plural), you were sent to the news stand. United Card is just such a place. The traffic - people carrying an arm load of Times, Ledgers and Records - in and out on the weekend is amazing. Lottery sales, magazine sales, birthday card sales and, of course, tobacco sales also fill their coffers. And while I am a confirmed non-smoker, the only reason for 4 stars is because of the way they display adult magazines. They are placed high above floor level so kids can't grab them, but the lurid covers with suggestive titles and pictures are right there.
Anyway, this is a fun store, call it a throwback to a time when people were readers and getting your facts from print counted for something.
