Yehia (the guy who owns the place) took me from long hair to short, and it was a thrill ride. The people who run the place are sweet, respectful, and devoted to their customers, and they always want to blow-dry and straighten your hair. The result for those who've never tried it is something like Mrs. Cosby, and it turns out to be kindof delicious. There's a neighborhood feel of people just hanging out--once the owner invited me to just come hang out, learn some things about doing hair if I wanted to. Walk in appointments seem to be ok. If you go, make sure to get Yehia to do your hair--he's got a flair. It seems like he's the artist in the place--sometimes he'll be cutting and they all gather round to see what he's inventing this time. It's a good haircut for not too much money.

If your out-of-town guests want to know what they're missing by living in the sticks, take them here! Lots of things they'll call "unique." (The decor at this place keeps getting more and more elaborate--soon they'll have lamps mounted on the lamps. Every time I go there, they've added some new decoration: carved, painted booths, hookah lamps at every table, and even a lone carved humpback whale.) They have a salad bar with lots of unusual pickled vegetables--brussel sprouts, cauliflower, stuffed eggplant--and they have an array of exciting warm foods and pastries, including all the middle eastern standards such as: chicken and lamb shawarma,, Moroccan couscous, and a nice tilapia and roasted vegetable dish. The couscous that they make only on Sunday may be something not everyone knows about and it's really good--the grains are extra large! And delicious! When I leave Chicago, this restaurant is the thing I will miss most.
