I think this place is fairly new, or at least newly remodelled because the inside is shiny and updated with fancy brick walls and a high end sink. When I went I was the only one there and the 3 ladies working there were talking amongst themselves in a language I didn't speak. That didn't matter 'cause I wasn't there to socialize anyway. The girl I had smiled a lot and did a good job in a short time. Pricing was reasonable and I would go back.

Talk about tiny and old fashioned! This place is a throwback to old times, and I think owners Pop and Son were there when it wasn't old fashioned! I stumbled in here lured by the soft shell sale sign. They were almost closed, everything but a couple of slabs of fish were put away for the day. They pulled out the soft shells, and though a little small for the price, I felt obliged to buy them just for the trouble they went to! Then I found out that they didn't take credit cards, and I was a dollar short! Well, true to old fashion business, they gave the fish to me for a dollar less, on the premise that I would return next week to pay them back. (This was Saturday and they are closed on Sunday). I did this, and felt good, and I knew my grandpa would be proud.

This is a great fishmonger! They have really great prices and are very well staffed to help the endless stream of people that float in here. There is another fish market one block south, so don't be fooled. Central Fish Market is located in a not so obvious place- one block from the bus ramp into the Port Authority, and one block from a homeless shelter. If you can get past the stragglers and the odd location, you will be rewarded with a great variety of fresh fish. Just recently I walked out with 6 small soft shells for only ten bucks! Word to the wise, don't wear your flip flops here, it is like being on the boat!

This place is probably subsidized because I don't know how it affords to stay open! With strange hours, a tiny store front, very very dusty items and extremely high prices, this place makes me scratch my head. That said, if you are looking for scented candles, you will be hard pressed not to find a scent you like. They have all kinds of exotic scents, along with yummy ones like coconut and chocolate. Just make sure you bring a lot of money with you when you go!

The staff here are well educated when it comes to product, because it is evident when you walk in and up the ramp that they are all musicians. You can find almost everything that you need as a professional musician, from basics to specialty items. The best thing about them is their location because if you happen to find that they don't have what you are looking for, you can probably venture into one of the other competitor's stores two doors down or across the street and have success!

This place has the best cookies you have ever tasted, and yes I would bet money on that! For the chocolate chip cookie lover particularly, Ruby et Violette specialize in choc. chip cookies of gourmet flavors. From rose to peanut butter, tiramasu to French vanilla, there is a cookie for everyone. The prices are high if you get them in the fancy packaging that has made them a hot commodity on the distribution side, but if you walk into their tiny retail shop where the baking is done, you can get hot from the oven singles for only $1.25. But don't go in there thinking you can come out with only one! Recommended flavors; Perfect, Lemon, Kitchen Sink

Matt Umanov's is a main stay guitar shop in the West Village's Bleecker street. It isn't a big place so when you walk in the door you may feel like an outsider by the attention you draw from those who work there. That fades away because there is a genuine interest in helping you find what you are looking for, even if that just means a guitar to fiddle with and not buy (New York prices are painfully evident here). Upstairs they have a a repair workshop which is pricey, but does decent work.
