This is just such a great way to get out of NYC without having to drive, hear and see some great music without having to go into debt, drink some cool libations on a boat that you can walk around on, and see some of the best sites NY has to offer all in one shot! A great thing to do with out of town guests, or for those of us who live there, the Blues Cruise is an event that is just downright fun.

I'm an avid fly fisherman who started my lifelong affair with the fly out in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I've lived in NYC for 5 years now and had hardly touched my trusty 8'6" 5 weight Sage rod. Not knowing where to fish, or who to talk to about the spots or even where to find gear in the city when I stumbled upon the urban angler. I needed a license for to fish in New York (I was going to hit the harlem Meer) and learned through from the Orvis retail guy (who knew where to get the goods!) that the only place around was the urban angler. So I headed on down, took the elevator from the unassuming doorway and watched as it opened out onto a long store with high ceilings filled with fly cases rods, and other necessary gear. It's a bit more posh than I'm accustomed and oh have the prices on Sage rods climbed! The staff was very helpful in explaining to me that yes you can in fact flyfish right in manhattan, (east river stripers were running at the time), complete with tips, flies and a hearty enthusiasm. They have a full set of very nice rods, reels, vests, other gear, and flies for all occasions (salt water, fresh) a pretty extensive web site, and knowledgable staff. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for tips on where, and how to do some Urban Angling!

about the practice and the way it is run. Health problems and simply check ups can be a scary thing. As soon as you get off the elevator onto the continuum's floor, you are enveloped in a sense of nuturing and care. As far as Carla's bedside manner and practice goes, she is really amazing. I came to her when no one else could help me, and she spent a lot of time examing all the options and issues. Together we found the way to heal me when all other options pointed to steriods or "deal with your problem, it isn't life threatening." Thank you Carla!!

This place is tiny and a throwback. Run by what seems to be family, they repair shoes, sell shoes and shine shoes. They also make keys on the side. I used them for a shine and stretch (2 different pairs). The shine was great, the stretch wasn't. The selection of shoes isn't anything exciting either, simply practical, but who buys shoes at a place like that who isn't practical?

From the moment you walk in you begin to feel fabulous. Up the little stairs to be greeted by some attractive person behind the desk. (either a man or a woman). All the stations are busy and every stylist appears to be at the top of their game. Each has their own style, from flamboyant to punk, and you know just being there you'll get a good cut. My shampoo was administered by a very very strong german woman in her 60s who not only massaged my head but then proceeded to perform some heavy swedish massage on my neck and shoulders. When I finally stood a little light headed she gave me that "german woman who just owned your neck" look. I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by the handsome and debonair owner. With very little direction he took my vague ramblings of what I wanted and turned it into an amazing cut that grew from wonderful to to fabulous over the next 8 weeks.

This guy is the best when it comes to singer's ear nose and throat problems~ and he has a wall to prove it. It was 2 nights before a big show for me and I couldn't speak! I was worried about hurting my voice, and was recommended to Dr Kessler. In the waiting room was Nathan Lane, obviously sick with some kind of horrible cold. Once in the room with the Doc, I felt like I was the star as he paid as much attention to my symptoms and words (or lack of) as I think he would Nathan. Adorning his wall were hundreds of signed albums, even one from Madonna! Needless to say, he gave me magical things to treat me, and the night of the show I was all voice. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

These were the services I got at this spa. You walk in and it has a nice feel to it, and you have beverages offered to you. My first service was a brazilian wax which I had never had before. She didn't get all the hair, and 2 days later on my way to the Caribbean I broke out in hundreds of pimples!! Ack! Well, my haircut was equally dreadful, I think the stylist was more interested in gabbing than in styling and I practically ran out of there. I would say stay away!!

I first went to Janis after searching for a holistic Ob/Gyn. She came up because she has done some underwater births. I am young and relatively healthy, and not pregnant or a mother, so my first visit was quick and business like. The next one I came in for something bothering me and she was rather curt and not very interested. To make this short, she prescribed me a pill which didn't work. Next visit, she did the same thing and kind of shrugged me off. I finally gave up and went to someone else who gave me a lot more care and attention and eventually solved my problem. Janis has no bedside manner, at least not for a woman without a baby or a lot of medical bills in her future!

This place has a character of an old lady working the counter, who when asked about a particular wine said, "Oh that's great!" and proceeded to say that about the 2 other wines we had picked out in comparison. That aside, they do have an excellent selection of things like specialty tequilla's such as Patron Coffee liquer. I wouldn't say go out of your way to come here, but it is definately better than your average beverage joint.

Antonio got me a place that I love! He listed the apartment on craigslist with pictures under no fee apartments. When I first met him at the door, he said, "you are going to love this place". "whatever" was my immediate thought, (I was so tired of looking at crap from other brokers) but he was sooo right! Better yet, he let me know he was willing to negotiate in price. We haggled a bit, and I gave him a deposit that day. The best part of the transaction was that this was a no fee situation! Call Antonio and ask him for a no fee apartment and he will do his best to hook you up.
