I can only assume that if I were in India, this is what I would be eating. The smells emanating from the restaurant will make your mouth water before you even set foot in the door. The decor is very casual and low key, but the food more than makes up for it. If you've never had authentic Indian food, you may want to make your first trip here with someone that knows the cuisine. There are so many dishes that I have never seen served at any Indian restaurant. At first, I didn't even know what was what. With helpful guidance from friends, I was able to try the sampler dish, which comes with about 8 or 10 little bowls with samples of different dishes. Then there are the various Roti you can choose from. They are heaven. Everything is vegetarian, but the flavours are so great, you won't even miss the meat! Top it all off with a yummy mango lassi!

Satay offers a great variety of food from the South China Seas. Go there to feast on delicacies from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. If you like it spicy, this is the place. Try the Tiger Cry, a delicious dish that may just bring tears to your eyes. Any of the noodle dishes and curries are a hit. If it's available, I highly recommend the sticky rice. It is finger licking good!

Shady Grove has become an Austin icon. It offers outdoor and indoor seating, a great atmosphere, live music and great favorites to eat. The burgers are great, but I also love the tacos, thai chicken salad, chicken friend steak and the chocolate pecan pie. Now, that's some home cookin'! The drinks flow freely and everyone always seems to be in a good mood! Just make sure you get there early for lunch or dinner, or be prepared for a long wait!

Kneaded Pleasures is a delightful neighborhood cafe. They serve a wide variety of food and beverages to satisfy just about everyone. They make a large assortment of caffeinated beverages and they recently begun offering breakfast items as well. Stop by for lunch or dinner to feast on tasty sandwiches and salads. Or you can skip all the meals and just come in for dessert! Lots of "kneaded pleasures" available in addition to delicious gelato!

They have an awesome array of burger choices, or you can build your own. Also available are salads, appetizers, chicken fried steak and a great kid's menu. There is ample outdoor seating under large oak trees. It makes a great setting for a fun time with family and friends.

Mirabelle is one of few restaurants that continually deliver good food consistently. Everything I've had, from appetizers to dessert, has been good. The empanadas, salads and steaks are a hit with all the guests I've ever taken there for dinner. They offer several exotic dishes like duck and venison. They have a slightly different and cheaper lunch menu with items that are just as good as the dinner choices.

It serves a variety of tapas to share, but also gives you the option of ordering larged dishes. They also have a full bar which makes average Sangrias and Mojitos. The tapas are a bit exotic for my tastes (clams, for example), but the potato dumplings were yummy.

Their buffet offers jewels galore and is continuously refilled. It's a great way to get to sample many of the menu items. The variety of rices available is awesome! I also recommend the rice pudding, also with a splash of rose water.

Hula Hut has become an Austin institution! It's a great place to get together with friends and a fun place to take out of towners. It is centrally located and easily accessible. The food is not bad, though a little pricey. The salsa is one of the best, a bit of hawaiian thrown in. Tubular tacos are also very popular and rather large. Unfortunately, it's great success has led to long wait times for both tables and food and a parking nightmare. Be prepared to walk or pay for valet parking!

I was a little dubious of yet another corner Chinese restaurant coming to this area, but I am glad I decided to give it a try! The restaurant is clean and bright and the service is very prompt. Food portions are substantial for the low cost. I usually get 2-3 meals out of 1 takeout dish. Most of these dishes come with white and brown rice, and coupons are widely available for a free egg roll or soup. They also make great bubble tea! I love the Green Tea Milk Bubble Tea. The hot and sour soup is also one of my faves there, with a nice kick. All in all Wok in Wok out make a great alternative on those crazy days when you can't get dinner made or for a good, quick lunch.
