In the morning, if you can get one before they’re all gone, their croissants are the best in the world! They are so freshly baked that the croissant dents when you hold it, while keeping its buttery flakiness. The coffee and expresso varies in quality depending on who is making it. During the day and especially in the evenings, the café is full of students from Vista, studying and hanging out. The restaurant has a seating time limit during these rush hours. However, once the traffic has lulled, it is well worth trying their soup & sandwich, or their fruits tarts as well. Busy and energetic atmosphere, but a good place to hang out. It is one of the few places in Berkeley open until 3am as well.

Eating with your hands is an experience best shared with friends, along with honey wine. They will serve your meals family style (on a huge circular plate for all to share) or individually, but I recommend family style. The candlelit restaurant features a black light the minute you enter and individual little booths covered with beads. Great date place! Intimate and cozy. Order extra bread. Excellent pleasant service.

In short, everything here is good!!! The salads are fresh, incredibly delectable, and easily sharable with a date. The coconut rice (which is a must-have!) is fragrant the minute it hits the table and enhances the flavor of all the varied curry dishes. The samosa soup is full of flavor and veggies (good for vegetarians). Best of all, ALL of the dishes are extremely well-portioned and easily sharable…for a good price! It is a wonderful experience and date restaurant. There is usually a wait but it's worth it!

Definitely excellent for the atmosphere: dim, candlelit, intimate seating with live jazz playing on Friday nights. Some of their best dishes are the lo mein, house pan fried noodles, sweet & sour chicken (off the menu), garlic spinach, and Hunan hot prawns. The Kung Pao dishes are more hot than spicy, for those whose palettes care about this difference.

A nice family restaurant with lots of good variety and flavor! You can do fried rice/chow mein, an entrée, and a drink for just under $10/person. Or, for those who like to taste, their sizzling bell pepper beef, egg rolls, garlic almond chicken, lemon chicken, and beef chow fun are some of my favorites. They do take-out, but alas, no delivery.

This is a small, quaint, little bakery in old town Pinole. Nestled among several other small businesses and retail stores along San Pablo Ave, the small doorway opens to a popular local spot. The selection is limited but the best are their bear claws. The other pastries were ok but not outstanding.

Nice hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and roomy seating area. Seating inside and out. They could use a few more tables and chairs inside; there is definitely a lot of space. It is located at the far end of the lot across the street from Peet’s Coffee in the 4th St shopping area. Good variety of patries but limited selection of hot foods.

This is a great family office including a huge, comfortable waiting area filled with toys, books, and magazines for kids and their moms. Many comfortable couches and chairs line the walls and middle area. The front desk is staffed by volunteers and interns, all very pleasant and eager to help. The staff is often busy and hustling, but you’ll enjoy it if you can get an appointment.

Small, personal office where a lot of the clients have been going for many, many years. Dr Alfred Rothman is busy but kind. He often has good interns as well. Do NOT get his nurse practitioner if you do not like your doctor talking at you versus with you. Arlen’s bedside manner was neither pleasant nor comfortable, and I was just in there for a follow-up visit.

I’ve been going to Dr Assael for over 10 years. His office is always very responsive (I’ve had to go for 2 dental emergencies). Patient and considerate dental assistants do the routine cleaning. Dr Assael is very into educating his patients, if you ask. A Walkman is offered for any drilling or deep cleaning work. He also schedules the work according to what works best for you; not pushy like some.
